NYT Russophobic Frenzy

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The self-styled newspaper of record’s hostility toward Russia is manufactured maliciousness - a regular drumbeat of fake news responsible editors wouldn’t touch.

Times editors feature it, often the lead front page report like in its latest edition - two on Saturday.

The Times: Trump expressed “frustration (over his) inability to control the special counsel investigation into whether his campaign coordinated with Russia during last year’s election, an investigation that unveiled its first criminal charges this week against Mr. Trump’s former campaign chairman and two other advisers.”

Fact: Trump warrants plenty of criticism. The Times ignores what’s most important, cherry-picking things to highlight, including witch-hunt investigations into phony accusations of Russian US election hacking, along with fabricated claims of the Kremlin aiding Trump to defeat Hillary.

Utter nonsense!

Fact: Criminal charges announced by special council Mueller against former Trump campaign manager and two others were unrelated to the president, Russia or last year’s US presidential campaign and election - the Times failed to explain, implying the opposite.

The Times: “Mr. Trump has made clear that he sees the attorney general and the FBI director as his personal agents rather than independent figures, lashing out at both for not protecting him from the Russia investigation.”

Fact: A gross overstatement. Trump is feeling the sting of injustice countless others endured earlier and now - suggesting an illegal or improper connection to Russia, along with the witch-hunt investigation into nonexistent Russia US election hacking, something he’s entitled to be furious about.

Fact: Last November, he won. Hillary lost. That should have been the end of it, but it wasn’t. Spurious accusations persist, The Times one of the most egregious proliferators of fake news on this and numerous other issues.

Fact: House and Senate investigations into alleged Russian meddling in America’s political process never should have begun. Nor should special council Robert Mueller have been appointed.

Fact: The whole ugly business aims to defraud the US public, a campaign to convince them despicable Big Lies are hard truths.

In a second deplorable feature Saturday article, The Times jumped on Trump campaign foreign policy advisor Carter Page for meeting with Russian officials in 2016.

So did many House and Senate members at times during their tenure - at home and abroad, a normal, justifiable activity, not a criminal or devious one.

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he was unaware of Page meeting any Russian officials. “We have learned about this from the press,” he said.

Page was questioned by the FBI. As part of Mueller’s witch-hunt investigation, he was grilled by a grand jury over nothing made into something.

The Times admitted his 2016 Russia visit “was never a secret.” So why the big deal now, why a front-page feature story over nothing.

In Moscow, he spoke at a New Economic School graduation ceremony, saying:

“Washington and other Western capitals have impeded potential progress through their often hypocritical focus on ideas such as democratization, inequality, corruption and regime change” - emphasizing unacceptable US policies toward Russia.

It’s likely why the Times jumped on him now, part of its disgraceful Russia bashing agenda.

It blasted Putin again, outrageously calling him “a ruthless anti-Western autocrat.” Earlier it featured a despicable commentary calling him “a dictator.”

He’s a preeminent democratically elected leader, shaming his Western counterparts, notably US ones.

The Times is one of his leading media antagonists, part of its disgraceful Russia bashing campaign - featuring disinformation, fake news and Big Lies, suppressing hard truths.
