US/UK Escalate Hostility Toward Russia

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

A previous article explained that bipartisan US hardliners appear heading toward war on Russia.

If launched, nuclear weapons will likely be used, a potential doomsday scenario, threatening all life forms on earth.

Washington’s longstanding geopolitical agenda is all about seeking dominion over all other nations, endless wars its favorite option.

If waged against another nuclear power, notably Russia and/or China, armageddon could follow. Because of hugely destructive super-weapons and likelihood that the US will likely use them ahead, today is the most perilous time in world history.

The rage of US policymakers to rule the world unchallenged may doom us all - the key issue of our time suppressed by Western media, supporting US aggression instead of condemning it.

What’s going on should scare everyone. Republicans and undemocratic Dems are waging intensive political, economic, financial, and media-supported propaganda war on Russia - risking things turning hot.

On Wednesday, the Trump regime’s Treasury Department expanded illegal sanctions on Russia - targeting 15 Russian intelligence members based on Big Lies, stating:

The designated “Russian military intelligence (members are sanctioned) for their involvement in a wide range of malign activity (sic), including attempting to interfere in the 2016 US election (sic), efforts to undermine international organizations through cyber-enabled means (sic), and an assassination attempt in the United Kingdom (sic).”

All of the above claims are bald-faced Big Lies. Virtually everyone in Washington, the West, and supportive media knows it but pretends otherwise.

Fact: No Russian interference in America’s political process occurred - nor meddling against any other countries. No evidence indicates otherwise. Without it, claims are groundless.

Fact: No Russian efforts “to undermine international organizations through cyber-enabled means” occurred. Again, no evidence backs the phony claim.

Fact: The Kremlin had nothing to do with what happened to Sergey and Yulia Skripal last March - a US/UK-staged false flag, wrongfully blamed on the Russian Federation. No evidence supports the fabricated claim.

When repeated endlessly, disinformation, fake news, and Big Lies take on a life of their own. That’s how vilifying propaganda works, a tactic as old as the ages, notably in the West.

So far, the Trump regime has illegally and maliciously “sanctioned 272 Russian-related individuals and entities,” according to the Treasury Department - more of the same likely to come.

Cold War 2.0 rages more intensively than at the height of US hostility toward Soviet Russia post-WW II.

On December 19, 41 bipartisan US hardline senators introduced a resolution - calling for “a prompt multinational freedom of navigation operation in the Black Sea and the cancellation of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in response to Russia’s recent aggressive actions in the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov.”

GOP Senator Ron Johnson said (t)he United States and our allies need to rapidly counter Russia’s military aggression (sic) in the Kerch Strait with strong and resolute action,” adding:

“Assembling a multinational freedom of navigation operation in the Black Sea to help ensure safe passage into the Sea of Azov, combined with cancellation of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is exactly the kind of response Putin needs to see.”

Undemocratic Dem Senator Richard Durbin turned truth on its head, saying “(t)he recent provocative military actions from Russia and revelations about its extensive cyber disinformation campaigns in the US are warnings to the rest of the world that Vladimir Putin has no intention of stopping his aggressive campaign against Western democracies (sic) or Ukraine,” adding:

“The world must work together to stop this Russian assault on democracy (sic) and Ukraine sovereignty (sic). I am proud to support this resolution and urge my colleagues to reaffirm this message of deterring further aggression from the Russian Federation.”

Durbin called for supplying Ukraine’s US-installed coup d’etat regime with more heavy weapons than already.

The following hardline senators expressed support for the anti-Russia resolution along with Johnson and Durbin:

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Ok.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee; Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation; and Sens. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), Christopher Coons (D-Del.), James Risch (R-Idaho), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Doug Jones (D-Ala.), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), John Thune (R-S.D.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.).

At the same time, Britain’s Theresa May regime escalated hostile rhetoric against Russia, falsely calling the Kremlin a threat to UK security.

What’s going on is diversionary tactic, trying to shift attention away from May’s disastrous no-Brexit/Brexit deal overwhelmingly opposed by parliamentarians, including around 100 Tories.

In response to increasingly hostile UK rhetoric, Russia’s London embassy said what’s going on “can only bring all sorts of negative consequences for the UK and the state of Russian-British bilateral relations.”

They’re ruptured beyond repair as long as majority UK parliamentarians are militantly hostile toward Moscow and Vladimir Putin personally.

The same goes for Washington. Irreconcilable differences persist. Nearly the entire Congress and ruling regimes are waging intense Cold War 2.0 on Russia.

Days earlier, UK war minister Gavin Williamson announced the creation of a “net assessment unit” to counter so-called emerging threats under Britain’s Modernizing Defense Program (MDP).

The only threats the US, Britain, and other NATO countries face are invented ones. No real ones exist.

Yet Williamson said “(o)ur adversaries (sic) and competitors are accelerating the development of new capabilities and strategies,” adding:

“We must keep pace, and conceive of our joint force as consisting of five domains, air, land, sea, cyber and space, rather than the traditional three.”

Britain’s Chief of Defense Staff General Nick Carter claimed “(c)onstant confrontation” is ongoing that is “reminiscent of the first decade of the 20th century,” preceding WW I.

US dominated NATO and partnered countries bear full responsibility for what’s going on, a hugely dangerous scenario, risking another global war - this time likely with nuclear weapons able to kill us all if used.
