Trump Regime’s AG Barr v. Undemocratic Dems

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

With rare exceptions, there’s nary ever a profile in courage in Washington.

It’s a cesspool of rogue governance too debauched to change. Both sides of the aisle, the executive, and key bureaucrats are on the wrong side of what just societies hold dear.

Following AG William Barr’s show trial-like confrontation with undemocratic Senate Dems on Wednesday, he notified the House Judiciary Committee that he wouldn’t show up for a repeat episode on Thursday.

He should have skipped Wednesday’s unacceptable politicized grilling as well.

The Mueller report found no evidence of improper or illegal Trump ties to Russia, no obstruction of justice. It repeated the Big Lie, falsely accusing Moscow of US election meddling — despite not a shred of evidence suggesting it because no proof exists.

Dems turned truth on its head claiming otherwise, along with falsely saying Barr “lied (or) misled” the public about the Mueller report in his summary letter.

Mueller debunked the claim, saying there was nothing false or misleading in his letter, adding he wanted Barr to release a summary ahead of the entire redacted report.

Even the neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post agreed, saying: “When Barr pressed Mueller on whether he thought Barr’s memo to Congress was inaccurate, Mueller said he did not but felt that the media coverage of it was misinterpreting the investigation.”

I discussed the issue in an April article, saying: Major media headlines on the Mueller report turned truth on its head — with examples, admitting no collusion, falsely claiming Mueller made a case for obstruction of justice, a Big Lie.

The NYT has been militantly hostile to Trump for triumphing over media darling Hillary. It lied saying Mueller’s report “lays out in alarming detail abundant evidence against President Trump, finding 10 ‘episodes’ of potential obstruction of justice…”

It did nothing of the sort. Mueller debunked the false claim. Trump cooperated with the probe. He didn’t fire anyone connected to it, destroy any evidence, or order the investigation closed at any time while it was ongoing.

He’s culpable for lots of serious crimes, not collusion with Russia or obstruction of justice. Media reports claiming otherwise willfully and maliciously lied — their specialty on major issues.

They and Dems won’t let go, politicizing the hell out of the Mueller report to vilify Trump for the wrong reasons, ignoring the most important right ones.

They want his chance for reelection weakened. That’s what Dem-supporting media bashing and subpoenaing Barr to testify before Senate and House Judiciary Committee members is all about. He failed to show up for House testimony on Thursday.

Ahead of the Mueller report’s release, extremist House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler announced “an investigation…into the alleged obstruction of justice, public corruption, and other abuses of power by President Trump, his associates, and members of his Administration,” adding:

“As a first step, the committee has served document requests to 81 agencies, entities, and individuals believed to have information relevant to the investigation.”

He failed to explain the politicized Russiagate witch hunt House, Senate, and Mueller probes. He said nothing about high crimes committed by both right wings of US duopoly rule.

He laughably said “(w)e have seen the damage done to our democratic institutions (sic) in the two years” under Trump. No such institutions exist to damage.

He lied saying “(i)t’s very clear that (Trump) obstructed justice.” Nadler and other undemocratic Dem Judiciary Committee members may hold Barr in contempt of Congress for not giving testimony to the committee, along with not so far releasing the Mueller report in its entirety to congressional members — unredacted, saying:

“We will continue to negotiate for access to the full report. And yes, we will have no choice but to move quickly to hold the attorney general in contempt if he stalls or fails to negotiate in good faith.”

A judicial battle looms — perhaps heading for Supreme Court justices to settle, its hard-right majority most likely supporting Trump and Barr if things go this far.
