Russian Foreign Ministry on Syrian Liberating Efforts

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

The mother of all battles looms to liberate Syria from US-supported terrorists. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (MZ below) discussed ongoing developments, saying:

“Efforts in Syria’s liberated areas to restore the socio-economic infrastructure destroyed by terrorists are ongoing” – miles to go to reconstruct what US-supported terrorist and Pentagon-led terror-bombing destroyed.

Internally and externally displaced Syrians are returning to liberated areas, around 600,000 to Deir Ezzor alone, much effort needed to rebuild their shattered lives, US-led aggression and terrorists it supports responsible for their misery.

MZ said Russian personnel are demining liberated areas, along with clearing out weapons and munitions left behind by (US-supported) terrorists.

Idlib is Syria’s most dangerous hot spot, tens of thousands of US-supported terrorists located there – provocations and atrocities committed daily by al-Nusra and other cutthroat killer jihadists – aided by Turkey, allowing their free passage back and forth cross-border from its territory.

Russian and Syrian aerial operations began last week against them, ahead of an imminent large-scale ground operation to defeat them.

Both countries “are discussing in detail ways of eliminating (their) presence in Idlib with the least damage to civilians,” MZ explained, adding:

Aided by Washington and its imperial partners, al-Nusra terrorists continue “destroy(ing) infrastructure in Idlib: exploding bridges and ruining roads in the hope of repelling the onslaught of Syrian government troops, which it expects and is scared of.”

“Civil activists who advocate the signing by non-terrorist armed opposition groups of local reconciliation agreements with Syrian legal authorities are being arrested.”

“The terrorists are preventing civilians from leaving the Idlib zone through open humanitarian corridors and leading residents of villages on the contact line deep into the province in the hope of using innocent people as live shields. This tactic has been used in other parts of Syria as well.”

“(W)e would like to reaffirm our position of principle on the need for the complete and final elimination of terrorists on Syria’s entire territory. We would also like to emphasize that Russia will do all it can to minimize human loss and damage to civilians in Idlib.”

“(W)e have repeatedly told (Washington and its imperial partners) that the struggle against the terrorist will continue” until they’re defeated.
