Palestinian Liberation Remains a Distant Dream
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Irreconcilable differences separate both sides. The so-called peace process is a colossal hoax.
So was Oslo, serving Israel’s interests exclusively, Palestinian rights entirely ignored, conditions today worse than ever under Netanyahu and aging Palestinian collaborator Abbas, serving Israeli interests, acting as its enforcer, betraying his people. His criticism of Trump’s move rang hollow.
Washington, Israel, most other countries and the Palestinian Authority pretend a peace process exists. It never has, more dead than ever after Trump’s pronouncement on Jerusalem.
The outlook ahead for Palestinians is bleak, continued subjugation and persecution under occupation harshness assured as long as Ziofascists run America and Israel.
Both countries reject democracy and Palestinian rights. They’re allied for regional dominance, wanting Syrian and Iranian sovereign independence replaced by pro-Western puppet rule, Hezbollah eliminated in Lebanon, preemptive wars their main strategy for achieving objectives not yet attained.
Early Saturday, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported 1,114 Palestinians injured by Israeli soldiers and police – from toxic tear gas inhalation, beatings, wounds from rubber-coated steel bullets and live fire, some victims with life-threatening injuries.
Scores of Palestinian journalists were attacked, according to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate. Israel wants media freedom suppressed.
After inciting violence, a hypocritical White House statement urged Israelis and Palestinians to “act in a manner conducive to peace.”
Trump spokesman Raj Shah said “the president has called for calm and moderation,” (urging) “the voices of tolerance” to prevail over “purveyors of hate.”
US double standard deceitfulness needs no elaboration. Pyongyang blasted Trump for his “reckless, wicked act,” showing “the whole world who is the destroyer of world peace” – calling him a “mentally deranged dotard,” America an international “pariah and rogue.”
“The US will be held accountable for all consequences from this reckless, wicked act,” the statement added.
Responding to US Muslim organizations, hundreds of Muslim worshipers prayed in front of the White House, wearing traditional Palestinian keffiyeh scarves and/or adorned in Palestinian flag colors, protesting Trump’s move.
Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) executive director Nihad Awad blasted him, saying he “does not own a piece of soil of Jerusalem and Palestine…He can’t give it away to the Israelis.”
He’s “empowering Christian religious extremism in the US.” He’s serving a foreign rogue state hostile to Palestinian rights and world peace, Washington grievously culpable, the world’s leading rogue state.
Commenting on Trump’s pronouncement, director of policy and government relations for Americans for Peace Now, Lara Friedman, expressed anger, frustration and fears, saying:
“I don’t pretend to know where things go from here, nor can I pretend to mourn the death of the Oslo process.”
“That process, in truth, was moribund for a long time, and in its dying state had become all-process, no-peace, and worse.”
“(U)ntil now, there was still a sliver of hope that this process could be the seed for a future agreement…That hope is gone, replaced by fears of consequences, intended & not, Trump’s reckless policies could unleash.”
Mondoweiss said the following:
“…Zionist leaders know precisely what Trump means; he blessed the idea of a unified Jerusalem sprawling in all directions with segregated highways and towering concrete separation walls.”
“The Israeli government has been licensed to move forward on plans to swell the annexation of Jerusalem by ethnically cleansing more Palestinian communities and building more ‘Jewish’ infrastructure.”
“No doubt, there is darkness over Jerusalem today. But the city has always been a magnet for dreamers; and Trump’s speech gives us greater standing.”
