The NYT Supports a Sinister Plot to Oust Venezuela’s Maduro
by Stephen Lendman
Washington targets all sovereign independent governments it doesn’t control for regime change, wanting puppets beholden to its interests replacing them.
Media scoundrels support its sinister aims, operating as press agents for powerful interests, abandoning what journalism is supposed to be, allying with privileged interests and imperial ruthlessness.
Since Hugo Chavez’s December 1998 election, replacing fascist tyranny with social democracy, dark forces in Washington targeted governance of, by, and for all Venezuelans equitably for elimination.
Straightaway, the NYT bashed Chavez, saying “some fear that populist economic policies will set the clock back here,” adding:
“He spoke out against privatizing health care (and) vowed to raise the minimum wage of just under $200 a month.”
Chavez critic Robert Bottome was quoted, saying “(a)s president, he’s going to try to deliver on his campaign promises. The economy will go into a big tailspin and then the question is, what does he do?”
Bolivarianism greatly improved the lives of most Venezuelans, providing free education to the highest levels and quality healthcare, subsidized food and housing, land reform, respect for indigenous rights, job training, micro credit, affordable electricity and cooking gas, nearly-freely gasoline, along with other social, economic and political benefits.
They lasted until oil prices plummeted and Washington waged political and economic war on the country – trying and failing to oust Chavez and Nicolas Maduro from office by coup d’etat.
The Trump regime is still trying, supported by the NYT. It wants Big Oil getting its dirty hands on the country’s oil, the world’s largest reserves, wanting revenues they generate prevented from being shared with all Venezuelans equitably.
It backs an array of deplorable/destructive policies just societies abhor. It’s a mouthpiece for state-sponsored viciousness, indifferent to human suffering, mindless about democratic values and rule of law principles.
It’s complicit with dark forces in Washington, wanting Venezuela destabilized more than already, claiming Trump regime hardliners are in cahoots with what it calls “rebellious military officers…plan(ing) to overthrow…Maduro, according to (unnamed) American officials and (an unnamed) former Venezuelan military commander who (allegedly) participated in the talks.”
Its latest piece aims to stoke more turmoil in the country than already, raising suspicions about fifth column military elements in the country, allegedly plotting with US dark forces to remove Maduro.
The Times: “Establishing a clandestine channel with coup plotters in Venezuela was a big gamble for Washington, given its long history of covert intervention across Latin America.”
Fact: The Times conveniently said nothing about the Obama regime’s orchestrated coups in Honduras, Paraguay and Brazil, along with installing puppet rule in Haiti, and aiding fascist Mauricio Macri take over from reformer/imperial critic Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in Argentina.
The self-styled newspaper of record quoted a Trump regime Big Lie, claiming it supports “dialogue with all Venezuelans who demonstrate a desire for democracy (Washington abhors at home and abroad to) “bring positive change to a country that has suffered so much” because of US political and economic war falsely blamed on Maduro.
US coup plotters backed off from helping alleged unnamed Venezuelan military fifth column elements because “of a wide range of serious crimes, including torturing critics, jailing hundreds of political prisoners, wounding thousands of civilians, trafficking drugs,” and other offenses, according to the Times.
Fact: Washington loves tinpot despots, including the Saudi regime, notorious for state terror, public whippings and beheadings, arbitrary arrests, political imprisonments, torture and abuse, countless other human and civil rights violations, along with supporting ISIS and other terrorists like Washington, NATO, Israel and their imperial allies.
Fact: The US abhors democrats, wanting them replaced by puppet rulers it controls.
The Times: “Most Latin American leaders agree that (Maduro) is an increasingly authoritarian ruler who has effectively ruined his country’s economy, leading to extreme shortages of food and medicine.”
Fact: Regional democrats and others elsewhere support Maduro, Venezuela’s social democracy, and its sovereign independence – notions the self-styled newspaper of record abhors.
The Times: “Maduro justified his grip on Venezuela by claiming that Washington imperialists are actively trying to depose him, and the secret talks could provide him with ammunition to chip away at the region’s nearly united stance against him.”
Fact: The Times ignored his democratic election and reelection, under a system Jimmy Carter calls the world’s best – scrupulously open, free and fair, unlike America’s money-controlled sham process, dirty business as usual winning every time.
The Times is consistently on the wrong side of all major geopolitical issues and most others – publishing disinformation, Big Lies and fake news, suppressing what’s most important to report.
