NATO’s Stoltenberg Hypes Nonexistent North Korean Threat

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

In Asia visiting Japan on October 30 and 31, then three days beginning November 1 in South Korea, US-installed NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg , fronting for its imperial agenda, was interviewed ahead of his arrival by the Japan News (The Yomiuri Shimbun).

In Tokyo, Japan’s Jiji press wire service interviewed him.

He lied claiming North Korea endangers NATO nations – an absurd accusation. Europe is within range of its ballistic missiles, he blustered, adding:

“NATO has protected its member countries from the threat of ballistic missiles through deterrence.”

NATO faces no threats from any nations – not Russia, Iran, North Korea or any others.

Jiji press reported Stoltenberg calling for international pressure on the DPRK, hyping nonexistent threats, ignoring real US ones – possible Trump administration preemptive war on the country, unconditionally supported by Stoltenberg if launched.

He lied telling Jiji Press NATO and its allies “do not want war.” He wasn’t asked why it’s been waging it in multiple theaters since the rape of Yugoslavia – notably post-9/11, naked aggression against nations threatening no one.

Asked if NATO would consider invoking its collective defense Article 5, member states coming to the defense of any one attacked, he wouldn’t speculate on a hypothetical situation.

Separately, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is visiting China this week. He’ll meet with President Xi Jinping and other top officials.

Among other issues, he’ll discuss the crisis on the Korean peninsula. Both countries are united in wanting things resolved diplomatically, above all avoiding war.

Trump’s hostile rhetoric got Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to say “China’s priority now is to flash the red light and apply the brake to both (US and North Korean) trains.”

Beijing and Moscow favor Security Council action for halting provocative US military exercises with South Korea and Japan, along with withdrawing its unacceptable THAAD missiles, threatening their security.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov called them a “destabilizing factor in line with the vicious logic of creating a global missile shield.”

Medvedev’s visit is also part of Sino/Russian political, economic and military cooperation – a key alliance for countering US imperial recklessness.
