Other Nations Trust America at Their Peril

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Duplicity and betrayal define US relations with other nations and its own ordinary people – ill-served, abused and exploited in deference to its privileged class.

America is a rogue state by any standard. Count the ways:

It’s perpetually at war on humanity at home and abroad – peace and stability anathema notions it rejects.

It’s the greatest threat to world peace and stability.

It’s a consistent international, constitutional and US statute law breaker.

It’s a serial violator of fundamental human and civil rights.

It’s a plutocracy, oligarchy, kleptocracy, not a democracy.

It uses ISIS, al-Qaeda and likeminded terrorists as imperial proxies in raping on one country after another – seeking hegemonic control over all nations, their resources and populations.

It advocates might over right, war over peace, slavery over freedom, public ignorance over an educated populace.

It’s a pariah state like no others. It can never be trusted. Other governments try at their peril.

It’s existence under one-party rule with two right wings threatens humanity’s survival.

It’s just a matter of time until full-blown tyranny emerges, martial law replacing rule of law entirely – on the phony pretext of protecting national security at a time America’s only enemies are invented ones.

The country already is unsafe and unfit to live in, serving its privileged class exclusively at the expense of most others.

Duplicity and betrayal define relations with other nations, demanding subservience to its interests.

The Trump regime abandoned the JCPOA, an international agreement, unanimously adopted by the Security Council, making it binding international law.

At his briefing days earlier, State Department policy planning director Brian Hook highlighted Pompeo’s 12 outrageous demands on Iran – ones no responsible government anywhere would accept.

Nuclear related and other illegal sanctions will be imposed unilaterally – on Iran’s automotive sector, trade in gold, and other key metals, effective August 4.

Energy and financial ones will follow on November 6. The Trump regime wants Iranian oil exports blocked, along with denying the country access to hard currencies – likely unachievable objectives, not for lack of extreme pressure on other nations to comply with outrageous US diktats.

Following Friday talks in Vienna with officials from JCPOA signatories Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said “I believe that there is political will to continue work and save this agreement, but we must see what will happen to this issue in practice,” adding:

Other diplomats in Vienna agreed to take “good measures” to save the JCPOA and continue normalized relations with Iran.

If EU commitments aren’t fulfilled, Iran will take appropriate actions to counter the Trump regime’s betrayal.

President Rouhani made it perfectly clear. If the Islamic Republic fails to benefit from the deal, it will abandon it and resume pre-JCPOA nuclear activities.

Commitments made by Britain, France and Germany must be followed tangible actions backing them – so far not forthcoming two months after Trump’s pullout.

Pompeo, Treasury Secretary Mnunchin, and other senior regime officials will “visit every region of the world,” Hook explained, delivering the same hardline message to governments on every continent, pressuring them to cease political and economic relations with Iran or face Trump regime wrath.

US relations with North Korea remain adversarial. On his visit to Pyongyang days earlier, Pompeo said harsh sanctions will remain in place until the DPRK fully and irreversibly complies with all US demands – a position its leadership justifiably rejects.

A statement issued blasted Washington’s “gangster-like” diktats.

US promises when made aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. Time and again, Washington notoriously says one thing and does something entirely different.

Pledges when made are hollow. Former Reagan/GHW Bush US visa bureau head in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia Michael Springman slammed US double standards, saying:

“North Korea sees what has happened to Iran, and how (its government (fully) complied with the (JCPOA), yet it’s still subject to more and more sanctions; and at the same time, North Korea sees Israel with no controls and no questions about its nuclear weapons of mass destruction.”

Double standards and duplicity consistently define US foreign policy. Less than a month after Kim Jong-un/Trump summit talks, US betrayal stalks Pyongyang.

Chances for normalized US relations with North Korea and all other sovereign independent countries are virtually nil.

Washington wants pro-Western puppet regimes replacing their independent governments – naked aggression and color revolutions its favored strategies.

As long as US regimes operate this way, world peace and stability will remain unattainable, humanity’s survival jeopardized.
