Moscow Conference on Threats to World Peace
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Today is the most perilous time in world history because of US rage for dominion over planet earth, its resources and populations by whatever it takes to achieve its objectives.
Wars of aggression, color revolutions, coups, and political assassinations are its favored strategies — hallmarks of fascist dictatorships, what imperial USA is all about, pretending to be democratic, a notion it tolerates nowhere, especially not at home.
During last week’s Moscow Conference on International Security, attended by over 1,000 officials from 111 countries, speakers discussed issues threatening world peace and stability — in the Middle East, elsewhere in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe, along with the growing danger of deploying space weapons for preemptive wars of aggression.
No US or other NATO country officials attended the conference. Nations dedicated to world peace and stability should denounce their hostile agenda.
Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev slammed the Trump regime for withdrawing from international agreements, adding:
“We are witnessing now how the language of ultimatums, saber rattling and chauvinism” threatens nations on the world stage, adding:
“An increase in instability is observed in Africa (and elsewhere), where a new round of struggle for (regional) natural resources flares up.”
“(W)e often see attempts by non-regional players to reshape the (world) without taking into account the will of” its ruling authorities and ordinary people.
The US-led West bears full responsibility, ignoring international laws, norms and standards. Venezuela is the latest example of its rage to dominate.
It’s one of countless “number(s) of countries (that) have fallen victim” to US imperial assaults on their sovereignty.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu accused the US of deploying so-called missile defense systems intended for offense near Russia’s borders, saying:
“Following the US withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, it became obvious that development of th(ese) type weapons w(ere) aimed at undermining the deterrence potential of Russia and China. Our partners (sic) have categorically denied this during numerous negotiations.”
US regimes lied claiming missile defense deployments in Eastern Europe are to counter threats by Iran and North Korea. Neither country threatens any other — nor do Russia, China, or any others on the US target list for regime change.
Unacceptable US actions undermine trust and stimulate an arms race, including the upgrading of nuclear weapons at a time global denuclearization should be prioritized.
Shoigu accused the US of illegally occupying Syrian territory, calling for its forces to withdraw, the notion falling on deaf ears in Washington, along with all other policies in the interest of world peace and stability.
Smuggling of stolen Syrian oil continues, Shoigu saying “photos show kilometers-long oil caravans carrying out (oil for) illegal export. The question is where the money from the oil goes to.”
A question he left unanswered is why hasn’t Russia interdicted the illegal convoys by aerial attacks to stop them.
Russian Chief of General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov addressed what’s ongoing in Europe, saying:
“In order to counter the deployment of (US-led NATO) troops near Russian borders and NATO’s ‘4 to 30’ initiative (to counter Russia), we are forced to strengthen the troops of the Western and Southern military districts.”
“This is being implemented within the established number of the Russian Armed Forces by reducing the composition of other military districts.”
To counter US missile defense deployments in Eastern Europe, Russia prioritized the development of advanced weapons to protect its security from preemptive attacks.
Gerasimov blamed Washington for heightened world tensions. He called for “termination of the destabilizing activity of the armed forces near the Russian western borders…as well as the termination of deployment of additional troops and military infrastructure in the Baltic countries and Eastern Europe, and of the military build-up in the Black Sea.”
Calls for stepping back from the brink to avoid East/West confrontation fall on deaf ears in the US — a warrior state hostile to world peace and stability, permanently at war in multiple theaters, risking catastrophic nuclear war with Russia and/or China if things get pushed too far.
Gerasimov stressed that increasingly hostile US actions prevent START 3.0 talks, adding:
“The result will be a further crisis of trust and confidence, a new round of the missile arms race. It will affect the security of European states” — allied with Washington’s imperial agenda at the expense of their own security.
Gen. Viktor Poznihir, Deputy Main Operations Directorate of the Russian General Staff chief commented on the threat of US aggression from space, saying:
“Like in the case of (US ballistic and cruise missiles) we do not rule out the possibility that space means could be used for carrying out preemptive strikes against Russian and Chinese (targets),” adding:
“Taking into consideration the global functioning of the space systems, such strikes could be fired against installations of any state.”
Poznihir stressed the growing threat of possible preemptive US nuclear strikes on Russia targets. Given increasing US hostility toward the Russian Federation, it remains an ominous possibility.
WW III if launched will be a war to end all future ones. The destructive power of today’s super-weapons makes pre-nuclear age ones seem like toys by comparison.
If launched, global war 3.0 most likely will be waged with nuclear weapons and other WMDs – a doomsday scenario, crossing a Rubicon of no return, risking humanity’s annihilation.
The notion of real-time star wars by militarizing space with nuclear and other super-weapons should terrify everyone.
It’s coming despite the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, banning nations from placing WMDs (not conventional weapons) in earth orbit or otherwise in outer space.
It should be used exclusively for peaceful purposes benefitting humanity. Using it for war with super-weapons could doom us all.
Gerasimov earlier warned that Russia must respond with its own outer space strategy because of the threat of US preemptive war from space, adding:
“We need to clarify the essence and content of military strategy, the principles of prevention, preparation for war and its conduct” – a strategy for self-defense because of the threat posed by US-led NATO.
At last week’s Moscow Conference on International Security, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin warned that a US/NATO provocation of any kind could trigger a global crisis, saying:
“Impulsiveness replaces weighted decision-making. Selfish approaches prevail. The risk of so-called random conflicts, which arise due to unilateral and spontaneous actions of individual players, increases. More and more people around the world are drawn into conflicts of varying intensity.”
Naryshkin accused the US and its imperial partners of rejecting rules-based international cooperation to further their own interests, risking a global conflict to try achieving them.
He slammed the Trump regime’s illegal recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s exclusive capital, the same for Syrian Golan as Israeli territory, along with withdrawing from the JCPOA and INF Treaty, actions reflecting imperial arrogance, breaching international law, adding:
He believes “the main reason of the processes that we witness is the unwillingness of the so-called West, headed by the United States, to accept the irreversibility of a multipolar world formation” — the 21st century’s new world, order superseding US unipolarity that’s passed.
Head of Russia’s General Staff Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) Igor Kostyukov said the “US blitzkrieg on Venezuela has failed.”
The Trump regime “miscalculated the strength (and resilience) of the legitimate (Bolivarian) government, its support by the population, and readiness of Venezuelan security forces to protect the constitutional order,” adding:
“Hope for a bloody clash between the army and the people has not materialized either.” The Trump regime is reluctant to challenge Venezuela’s military directly.
“It wants to organize invasion by its allies, first of all, Colombia” by forming paramilitary proxies, including Central American criminal gangs and Colombian insurgents to attack Venezuelan infrastructure, he believes.
To justify use of force, the Trump regime may accuse Maduro of supporting international terrorism the US created and backs, followed by color revolution attempts in Cuba and Nicaragua.
All of the above explains why the US is the greatest threat to world peace and stability — why it’s crucial to defeat its imperial agenda.
The alternative is enslavement or mass annihilation.
