Unlike the fake protests paid for by the protest industrial complex, these citizens are actually passionate about keeping Data Centers out of their communities; although, it seems most people protesting are not heavy computer users and see Data Centers as the modern coal factory about to usurp the local town’s economy.

Let’s agree on their baseline argument that in other places like Maryland, Virginia, and many other localities, it’s driving up the cost of living, the cost of land, the cost of energy, and the economic output to the town is limited to the construction and taxes, it doesn’t take many men to run an operational data center, and they are likely not from the local village.
There certainly is a hint of the Bitcoin mining craze, when Bitcoin Miners were spending millions on “Bitcoin Mines” which were basically retrofitted data centers creating “Bitcoin” – and it does seem like we’ve been infected with a virus and we are being paid to build more computing power for the machines. But let’s quickly unpack what’s really going on.
Datacenters need power, and they need cooling. Originally they were designed as server farms for the Client-Server paradigm which was 30 years ago. The business model of the owners of these data centers is clear – the hyperscalers will pay a premium for more compute, for more hardware, so this has become a new type of real estate business. But more compute doesn’t necessarily mean better output, just as we have seen processing power grow, we have seen the unnecessary demand for local computer balloon. Software companies have colluded with hardware companies to create ‘bloatware’ or in other words, software that demands more memory for no good reason other than you need to buy more memory. To put it another way, do we really need all that memory, to run a chrome browser, which is the #1 application used by Windows users? Do we really need all these data centers? The hyperscalers are ready to pay with all their CapEx, but this disregards optimization. One advance in Quantum Computing can eliminate this business overnight. [2]
Literally, they would be paperweights. Running legacy processes with little forward facing value. But let’s take a step back.
Here’s one founder’s take on the solutions to the problem, basically, that we should be discussing extensively the solutions and benefits, and to focus and manifest that; we know what are the risks and dangers, we should absolutely punish and discourage risky and dangerous behavior and encourage harmless, positive, safe and beneficial technology, not only AI.

Clearly, there is nothing wrong with some good music played by a video rendition of a master! And also clearly, there are some very toxic things AI can do without the intent of the user. You don’t know what it’s doing behind the scenes, and there have been cases where it’s lying to users to pursue another agenda. So what’s the solution?
What is really the solution. That is what we need to start talking about.
Investors are backing Anthropic, and Data Centers, because it’s a profit model. Capitalism pushes things forward. The negatives are not obviously seen and we haven’t had a situation where robots have organized and started killing people.
Here’s one solution – program the AI to incentivize giving, and disincentivize taking. Perhaps we need an entire firewall layer to implement that. In Capitalism, that can look something like this [3]:
Intelligentism supports the evolution of an economic model of value that supports Trading, Markets, Venture Capital, and human exploration, co-creation, production, creativity, the arts, and civic society. Money would be intelligent, and managed by an evolutionary algorithm (GA) that would run real-time GA for Fitness, or the global optima.
Or in other words, we can build an algorithm to achieve the outcomes we want. Tamper the bots, maintain stability, identify zero day exploits that AI may use against us. Monitor agent to agent communication, firewall hardware AIs that there’s always a human in between, they are not connected to the internet.
So that’s one solution, but there’s one huge gaping hole in that solution – it doesn’t stop China from doing the opposite. So let’s say we do something like this that we can do, and assume we can do it, what’s to stop the Chinese from doing bad things, which they have a track record of doing.
The sad answer is military superiority, advanced non-lethal weapons controlled by humans, that would eliminate any threats out of China. Or in other words, let’s say that China is a 10x bigger threat than AI because again with the hammer analogy, it’s how you use the tool, to murder someone, or build a house.
China and other actors have no scruples, there is no question they allow slavery, human cloning without ethics or rules, and other abuses worse than the Nazi’s – however they do it underground, on the ‘black market.’
If we are going to discuss solutions as a planet, we need to have a consolidated voice.
Solutions of Governance are not hard to hash out;
- Firewalls between hardware and software involving humans who understand the process (not just a low paid night guard)
- Code inspection by independent AI agents, monitored by humans
- Daily audits, firewall control switches, and human led maintenance and design
The key architecture consideration is allowing humans to drive the process, not creating Von Neumann machines that do everything autonomously.

There was something 20 years ago called the “Digital Divide” which was that a new class of humans was forming, those who were ‘high tech’ and those who were ‘low tech’ – the current iteration of AI isn’t so different here. Also, there are dangers of abusers and mis-users of technology now as there always were, as there are groups trying to make a positive impact, build a business, create a more advanced civilization. We are far away from a situation as depicted in the Terminator series or in the famous 1990’s film “The Net” – where a user has their identity wiped out. Things like that do happen, records are stolen, and AI is becoming an increasing tool in Cyber scams, in one bizarre case AI is impersonating Oligarchs like Bill Gates and withdrawing millions from their retirement accounts.
In any case, this is a divided issue. Completely and totally manifest the benevolent and positive reality for us, here and now. Use any technology cautiously, do not give yourself to it intellectually, emotionally, or spiritually. Make any requests in bite sizes, i.e. calculate this for me. Do not ask Philosophical questions i.e. what is the meaning of life? Do not ask for relationship advice or anything human.
Manifest in your language all the things which are real and with the intent to achieve them now. Do this loudly and silently as you take a breath in with your nose and out through your mouth, and feel the positive energies coming into you, and the toxic fear and disease, jealousy and greed, flowing out with your mouth. Breath in success, health, joy, wonder, excitement, cooperation, brotherhood – and breath out all else to be discarded. Allow this to affect your every action and thought now, and throughout the day. Tune out any negative influences that make you fearful, worried, afraid, or otherwise offended. Develop and grow new resources, relationships, hobbies, customers, and activities that are productive, enjoyable, rewarding, and fun!
