Venezuelan Anti-Social Justice Catholic Bishops

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

They’re a deplorable bunch, at least the leadership and other vocal ones, supporting fascist rule over Bolivarian social justice.

They were hostile to Hugo Chavez throughout his tenure, now denigrating President Maduro and Venezuela’s electoral process, the world’s best.

Chavez often clashed with the church, accusing Venezuelan bishops of complicity with pre-Bolivarian anti-populism and deep-seated corruption, along with allying with the country’s “rancid oligarchy.”

Once he said “the devil has snuck into clerical robes” interfering in the country’s political affairs. He accused them of complicity with the aborted two-day April 2002 coup plotters.

At most, only a handful of priests and bishops support Bolivarian fairness, if any. Most oppose using most of the nation’s resources for social justice programs.

They disgracefully accused the National Electoral Council (CNE) of October 15 regional elections bias, ruling Bolivarian party candidates trouncing opposition fascists they supported - winning 18 of 23 gubernatorial elections.

They wrongfully alleged fraud, quoting opposition fascists’ claims and the State Department, saying the process was neither “free nor fair” - a Big Lie.

It was scrupulously honest, mocking America’s sham process, fantasy democracy, dirty business as usual winning every time, monied interests controlling things.

Five winning opposition governors boycotted the swearing in ceremony. Maduro scathed them, saying unless they’re sworn into office as required, they won’t be allowed to serve.

On October 19, Venezuelan bishops shamefully denounced the CNE, falsely claiming it “showed itself to be a biased arbiter in the service of the governing political party,” adding:

“(M)ultiple irregularities (were) committed in the implementation of the electoral process: preventing political organizations from substituting candidates as provided by law, sending voters over to other polling stations at the last minute, the lack of neutral international observers, and voters being pressured into voting a certain way.”

“All this constitutes an obstacle to exercising one’s right to vote and creates mistrust in the election processes…ignoring and mocking the will of the people on which  the legitimacy of any election rests.”

Independent national and international monitors called the electoral process open, free and fair. No irregularities were found, only some minor technical issues having no effect on the process.

Overall, elections went smoothly all day. A 100% post-election audit verified the results - a reassuring procedure rarely used by Western nations.

Venezuelan Catholic bishops want fascist rule replacing Bolivarian social justice - supporting privileged interests exclusively at the expense of ordinary Venezuelans.
