OPCW Finds No CWs at Terror-Bombed Syrian Facilities
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
On April 14, US, UK and French warplanes, preemptively and illegally without just cause, terror-bombed Syrian facilities.
US war secretary “Mad Dog” Mattis lied, claiming the mission was to “destroy (Syria’s) chemical weapons research, development and production capabilities.”
Nothing of the kind exists – well known to Washington, Britain and France. Yet terror-bombing was ordered anyway – continuing US-led aggression on a sovereign state threatening no one.
One facility struck was a Barzeh district research lab involved in development of cancer drugs.
Joint Chiefs Chairman (“Fighting Joe”) Dunford claimed “(t)his military facility (sic) was a Syrian center for the research, development, production and testing of chemical and biological warfare technology” – a bald-faced lie.
Days earlier, OPCW inspectors visited the struck Barzeh lab site. Analysis of samples collected showed no evidence toxic chemical substances, nothing indicating the facility was involved in developing, producing or testing CWs – despite US, UK, French claims otherwise.
Russian General Staff Gen. Sergey Rudskoy explained if these countries “really believed that chemical weapons stockpiles actually existed, then their air strikes would have led to a large-scale contamination and as far as Damascus goes, tens of thousands of people would have been killed.”
Eliminating CWs involves destroying them under carefully controlled conditions so toxins can’t enter the environment and spread.
Blowing them up amounts to conducting a massive CW attack.
“Immediately after the attacks, many people who worked at (Barzeh and two other) destroyed facilities and just bystanders without any protective equipment visited them. None of them got poisoned with toxic agents,” Rudskoy explained.
The April 14 terror-bombing mission had nothing to do with destroying Syrian CW facilities – everything to do with weakening its military capabilities.
Syrian air defense systems downed most missiles fired, including dozens aimed at military bases, aiming to inflict significant damage.
Mission failure virtually assures more attempts to achieve what wasn’t accomplished on April 14.
A separate article explained Russia’s Defense Ministry intends supplying Syria’s military with more sophisticated air defense systems, according to Russian media – presumably S-300s that should have been installed long ago.
Apparently now they’re coming. Rudskoy confirmed it, saying “Russian specialists will continue training Syrian military personnel, and will assist in mastering new air defense systems, which will be supplied in the near future.”
Once in place, Syria will have much greater ability to thwart further aerial attacks.
How Washington, Israel and their rogue allies intend dealing with this situation remains to unfold.
