Steven Seagal’s Impossible Mission

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

In 2016, Hollywood martial arts/black belt action hero Seagal was granted Russian citizenship by Vladimir Putin, a president he called “one of the great living world leaders.”

On August 4, he was appointed Russian Foreign Ministry’s pro bono goodwill ambassador, its “special representative for Russian-US humanitarian ties.”

His “task is to facilitate relations between Russia and the United States in the humanitarian field, including cooperation in culture, arts, public and youth exchanges, and so on,” the ministry said.

Commenting on his appointment, Seagal tweeted: “I am deeply humbled and honored to have been appointed as a special representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in charge of Russian and American Humanitarian ties.”

“I hope we can strive for peace, harmony and positive results in the world. I take this honor very seriously.”

After appearing on stage during a Crimea concert last spring, US-installed Kiev putschists banned him from entering the country for five years.

He responded saying: “Apart from a black belt, I have a black list now” - likely from Washington as well as from Ukraine.

US hostility toward Russia is longstanding, current relations more dismal than ever. Nothing in prospect suggests positive change is possible.

Seagal’s film heroics won’t translate into softening irreconcilable differences between both countries.

Washington needs enemies to continue spending countless trillions of dollars for militarism and warmaking on humanity - Russia menacing no one considered its main threat.

Virtually all other sovereign independent countries are considered US enemies for not bending to its will.

America is permanently at war on invented enemies because real ones don’t exist.

It’s all about wanting them transformed into subservient US vassal states, about colonizing planet earth by naked aggression, color revolutions, and other coups called humanitarian intervention and democracy building.

Imperial America disdains these notions - undemocratic Dems as belligerent and lawless as Republicans.

They champion might over right, destroying nations for their own good, liberating them from their sovereign independence, from their freedom from foreign domination.

Media scoundrels glorify war in the name of peace, notions they deplore. Washington’s imperial agenda is all about raping, destroying, colonizing and controlling one nation after another.

Looting their resources is considered economic development - monied interests benefitting at the expense of exploited people.

Reasons why imperial wars are waged are suppressed - sacrificing human rights, well-being and lives considered an acceptable price to pay.

Where things end, who knows. Militarism and money power won’t sustain a ravaged planet.

Washington’s rage for dominance may doom us all. Russia’s goodwill initiative won’t change a thing.
