Russia Foils Drone Attacks on Its Syrian Bases
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, attacks by 13 foreign-made drones supplied to terrorists were repelled – likely made-in-the-USA ones.
Washington, NATO, Israel, and the Saudis want endless war and regime change, rejecting conflict resolution efforts – why Obama launched naked aggression on Syria in 2011, Trump continuing what he began.
US tactics changed over time, its end game the same. America doesn’t wage war to quit.
Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia’s “remaining contingent and military infrastructure at Kmeimim and Tartus have the necessary capabilities to counter sporadic terrorist hit-and-run raids, which will regrettably continue.”
Last Saturday, Russia’s air defense systems downed seven drones, six others put out of commission, forced to land in Russian controlled territory.
Data retrieved were decoded. Russia’s military knows their launch locations. According to its Defense Ministry, “(t)he fact that extremists use combat drones indicates that the militants have obtained (advanced) technologies enabling them to stage terrorist attacks with the use of such aircraft in any country” – obtained from foreign sources, adding:
Advanced training in “one of the developed countries” is necessary to operate the drones, using “exact coordinates from space surveillance data,” pinpointing sites to attack.
Around the time of the attacks, a US Navy Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft was flying in airspace between Khmeimim and Tartus bases.
It wasn’t coincidental, clearly involved in what happened, a Pentagon-launched attack on Russia’s bases, an act of war, its Defense Ministry saying:
“This forces us to take a fresh look at the strange coincidence that, during the attack of UAV terrorists on Russian military facilities in Syria, the US Navy reconnaissance aircraft Poseidon was on patrol over the Mediterranean Sea for more than 4 hours at an altitude of 7 thousand meters, between Tartus and Khmeimim.”
It was the first time terrorists used technology this sophisticated – “only (obtainable) from a country possessing state-of-the-art technologies,” Russia’s Defense Ministry explained.
Separately, Syria’s military said it partly foiled another Israeli attack on its territory, launched pre-dawn at its al-Qutaiba base near Damascus – with warplanes operating from Lebanese airspace and ground-to-ground missiles from Golan and inside Israel.
One of its warplanes was struck. It’s unclear if it was destroyed or damaged. The IDF hasn’t commented.
A Syrian military statement said “(t)his flagrant aggression reaffirms Israel’s support for the armed terrorist groups in Syria and its desperate attempts to lift their morale.”
Expect these type provocative US and Israeli attacks to continue – rogue states partnered against Syrian sovereign independence.
