Undemocratic Dems’ Assault on FISA Memo

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

The state of the nation keeps sinking to lower depths – on track toward destroying the republic entirely, replacing it with full-blown tyranny.

What’s going on is shocking, an unacknowledged constitutional crisis, most Americans mindless about what’s evident in plain sight.

Undemocratic Dems with media support launched an assault on the Russiagate FISA memo. It contains clear evidence of Washington’s debauched system.

Unjustifiable FISA warrants were gotten to spy on Trump’s team during the 2016 presidential campaign – based on Christopher Steele’s dodgy dossier, information lacking credibility, his work funded by Hillary and the DNC.

Heads should roll for what happened, individuals responsible held accountable for wrongdoing – including Hillary, high-level FBI and DOJ officials, along with undemocratic Dems involved.

Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton called the FISA memo a “devastating blow” to special counsel Mueller’s investigation, saying “(t)he whole thing (should) be called off now by the Justice Department if (it’s) brave enough, based on the disclosures.”

They’d be no Mueller investigation without Steele’s dodgy dossier, he maintained, calling for greater disclosure by releasing the FISA memo’s underlying documents to learn more about abuses committed.

Led by undemocratic Dem Rep. Adam Schiff, current and former party officials (including Obama attorney general Eric Holder) launched a media-supported campaign to discredit the important Rep. Devin Nunes FISA memo.

They failed trying to get its contents suppressed. Now revealed for everyone to read, they’re disgracefully attacking its credibility – calling it a war on the FBI and Justice Department to discredit Mueller’s investigation – a witch hunt, not a legitimate one.

The memo focuses entirely on FISA abuses, not Mueller, as critics falsely claim. Dems want their own memo released. They unjustifiably questioned the reliability of what Nunes disclosed.

A former unnamed US intelligence official/whistleblower said “(f)irst, it’s fear tactics. Our national security is at risk.”

“When that no longer works, they attempt to discredit the memo and Nunes, instead of doing their due diligence and ensuring that (intelligence community) assets are not weaponized during an election.”

The Nunes memo justifiably expresses concern “with the legitimacy and legality of certain DOJ and FBI interactions with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC)…represent(ing) a troubling breakdown of legal processes established to protect the American people from abuses related to the FISA process.”

Current and former undemocratic Dem officials, along with media scoundrels, went all-out to suppress vital FISA memo information everyone has a right to know.

Now they’re waging war to discredit its revelations. During his tenure, Obama waged war on press freedom.

Campaigning, he promised transparency, oversight, accountability and reform. He said whistleblowing reflects “acts of courage and patriotism.”

He pledged to “strengthen whistleblower laws to protect federal workers who expose waste, fraud, and abuse of authority in government.”

He promised one thing and did another, targeting more whistleblowers than all his predecessors combined, prioritizing surveillance powers on his watch, wanting truth and full disclosure suppressed.

Journalists and press freedom advocates said he concealed information everyone has a right to know.

He evaded press scrutiny, aggressively targeting leakers – maybe now directly involved in the campaign to denigrate Trump and remove him from office.

FISA memo revelations are important. Key is what follows from their release. Without accountability for wrongdoing, nothing will change.
