Trump’s Rage for War Risks the Unthinkable
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
He’s blind to the storm he’s heading the nation and world community into, mindless of the immense danger his recklessness poses – in Syria and worldwide.
His rage reflects imperial madness, risking global war in pursuit of unattainable objectives.
His latest tweet storm went as follows:
“Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart!’ “
“You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!”
“Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War. There is no reason for this.”
“Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?”
Remarks like the above show a leader blind to reality in Syria, blind to the overwhelming danger his agenda poses, blind to the risk of confrontation with Russia, possibly launching global war based on a Big Lie.
According to Turkey-based YeniSafak.com, closely allied with Erdogan’s regime, Washington has 22 potential targets to strike in Syria – in response to the Douma CW false flag, adding:
“Among those points are strategic areas densely populated by Shiite militias. Russian soldiers are deployed at two military bases in the Homs and Tartus regions which are also among the targets.”
“Syrian International Relations Specialist Zakariye Molahafci says the US has prepared a detailed target map and is ready to strike over 20 military points across Syria in the upcoming days.”
If an attack comes, he believes the US, Britain, France and Israel will be involved – military bases and positions, as well as air defense systems in Syria likely key targets.
Trump’s hardened war cabinet was assembled to carry out his reckless agenda about to unfold.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova suggested US missiles may target Douma to undermine OPCW inspection of the area, asking:
Is their team coming “aware that smart missiles are about to destroy all evidence of the chemical weapons use on the ground?”
“Or is that the actual plan – to cover up all evidence of this fabricated attack with smart missile strikes, so that international inspectors had no evidence to look for?”
Israeli forces are on high alert. Wednesday, a senior unnamed defense ministry official said “(i)f the Iranians act against Israel from Syrian territory, Syrian President Bashar Assad and his (government will) pay the price,” adding:
Syria’s government “and Assad himself will disappear from the map and the world if the Iranians do try to harm Israel or its interests from Syrian territory.”
“Our recommendation to Iran is that it does not try to act, because Israel is determined to continue on this issue to the very end.”
On Wednesday, Southfront reported US nuclear submarines and four guided-missile destroyers heavily armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles en route to or positioned off Syria’s coast.
Is Trump a modern-day Nero, his recklessness setting the world ablaze? Will unleashing “fire and fury” on Syria turn into chickens coming home to roost?
If his ordered missile strikes on multiple Syrian targets are intercepted and downed by Russia, will direct confrontation between the world’s dominant nuclear powers follow?
Is potentially the most serious international crisis in modern memory unfolding in real time practically unnoticed by most people?
Will it take nuclear detonations close to home to awaken slumbering people to the most dangerous situation in their lifetime?
The worst may or may not happen. Risking it is madness. Judged by his actions, Trump hasn’t a clue.
