Trump Regime’s New Counterterrorism Strategy?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Washington’s longstanding counterterrorism strategy under Republicans and undemocratic Dems supports the scourge it pretends to oppose.

Tactics may vary in US war theaters. Imperial aims are all about seeking unchallenged global dominance – using ISIS and other terrorist groups as proxy fighters, supported by US-led terror-bombing.

On Thursday, the White House released what it called “a new National Strategy for Counterterrorism that will protect American citizens and interests at home and abroad,” saying:

It’s the first “robust and fully-articulated strategy on counterterrorism since 2011.”

Claiming it aims “to keep our country safe” failed to say America’s only threats are invented ones, no others.

The so-called “new strategy” is old wine in new bottles – pretending to counter a threat only faced by nations the US targets for regime change.

According to the White House, counterterrorism focuses on:

“Pursuing terrorists to their source;

Isolating terrorists from their sources of support;

Modernizing and integrating the United States’ counterterrorism tools;

Protecting American infrastructure and enhancing resilience;

Countering terrorist radicalization and recruitment; and

Strengthening the counterterrorism abilities of our international partners.”

The “source” of terrorists is virtually anywhere worldwide where the US and its imperial partners recruit them.

US strategy and tactics involve using jihadists against governments it wants replaced by pro-Western puppet rule.

US infrastructure needs rebuilding, not protected. Washington and its imperial partners recruit, heavily arm, fund, train and direct jihadist fighters – using them against targeted nations, not countering them.

Ordinary Americans are abused, exploited, and threatened by Republicans and undemocratic Dems, the same true about ordinary people everywhere.

Defeating terror is counter to US interests. The White House claiming Washington and its global partners “decimated ISIS and pushed the group to the brink of extinction in Iraq and Syria” is polar opposite reality on the ground where their fighters are deployed.

In Syria, ISIS currently holds two dozen or more women and children as hostages – kidnapped in the country’s south, threatening to execute them if government forces continue their offensive against their fighters, likely following Pentagon and CIA orders.

Russian, Syrian, and Hezbollah forces, along with Iranian military advisors, alone decimated the ranks of ISIS and other terrorists – not Washington and its imperial partners, as the White House falsely claimed.

Addressing reporters on Thursday, John Bolton commented on the Trump regime’s fantasy strategy against “radical Islamic terrorist groups” it supports.

It’s more extremist in supporting this scourge than Obama, Bush/Cheney, and the Clinton co-presidency

Bolton turned truth on its head, claiming “(r)adical Islamist terrorist groups represent the preeminent transnational terrorist threat to the United States, and to United States’ interests abroad,” adding:

“(I)t remains strong all around the world, and even with the defeat of the ISIS territorial caliphate, we see the threat spreading to other countries.”

Its strength depends entirely on the amount of US-led foreign support its jihadists receive.

Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah comprise their only regional opposition – along with Russian aerial support. Claims otherwise are Big Lies – spread by Bolton, Pompeo, Haley and other regime hardliners.

Washington’s current imperial agenda is far more menacing to humanity that when Martin Luther King called the US “(t)he greatest purveyor of violence in the world.”

Its permanent war agenda threatens everyone at home and abroad – with possible extinction if thermonukes are used against Russia, China, or other US adversaries.

Its rage for dominance makes the unthinkable possible.
