Syria Developing New Chemical Weapons?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

The Trump administration lied, claiming Syria is producing and using “new kinds of weapons” for chemical warfare.

Its forces never used CWs before. They’re not using them now. Not a shred of evidence suggests otherwise.

Indisputable evidence proves US-supported terrorists used CWs numerous times throughout the war, most often Syria falsely blamed.

Why would Syria use CWs on people it’s been defending since Obama launched naked aggression on the country in March 2011? It’s clear why US-supported terrorists use them – to blame Assad for their crimes.

Syria’s entire CW stockpiled was eliminated, verified by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Washington and Israel maintain large illegal stockpiles of these weapons. Syria has none.

The Trump administration threatened to attack Syrian forces – to deter them from using what they don’t have and never used earlier.

An unnamed administration official absurdly said if the international community doesn’t pressure Assad to stop using what he doesn’t have, (fantasy) Syrian CWs could threaten the United States.

The official lied claiming it’s “highly likely” that Assad maintains a hidden CW stockpile he never disclosed, along with retaining a “continued production capacity.”

Each time these accusations surface, Damascus categorically denies them. No evidence challenges its claims. Nothing suggests they’re not true.

Trump escalated Obama’s war on Syria, aiming for regime change, wanting the country’s sovereignty destroyed along with partitioning it.

Recent chlorine and suspected sarin attacks were launched by US-supported terrorists, using toxic agents supplied them.

On February 1, Russia slammed Washington for rejecting its draft resolution on establishing a new mechanism to investigate suspected CW incidents in Syria.

The expired pro-Western OPCW/UN Joint Investigation Mechanism (JIM) failed to do its job. Russia called its work sloppy and “amateurish,” based on “a layman’s methodology,” lacking credibility.

Its conclusions were biased, distorted and one-sided, unworthy of serious consideration. Moscow proposed establishing a reliable mechanism to replace the failed one – rejected by Washington so it can keep blaming Syria for CW attacks by terrorists it supports.

In late January, Rex Tillerson falsely blamed Syria for a suspected CW incident in East Ghouta it had nothing to do with.

He blamed Russia as well for what happened, reports about the alleged incident coming from

Western-supported al-Qaeda-connected White Helmets, and the UK-based Observatory for Human Rights anti-Assad propaganda service.

Tillerson: “Whoever conducted the attacks Russia ultimately bears responsibility for the victims in eastern Ghouta and countless other Syrians targeted with chemical weapons since Russia became involved in Syria.”

Russia is combating terrorists Washington supports. It’s going all-out for restoring peace and stability to the country.

Like Obama, Trump wants endless war and regime change, wanting Damascus and Moscow held responsible for crimes committed by ISIS and other terrorists it supports.

Separately, Defense Secretary Mattis said “(w)e do not have evidence” of Syrian responsibility for use of sarin gas in recent CW attacks – nor evidence it used any toxic agents against civilians or terrorists it’s combating.
