Shed No Tears for John McCain’s Passing

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

On August 25, McCain died at age-81, according to a statement from his office.

Last year, he was diagnosed with primary gliobtastoma, an aggressive tumor in the tissue of the brain and spinal cord.

Chances for survival decrease with age. For elderly individuals like McCain, it’s around 5%, radiation and chemotherapy able to lengthen lives of patients.

Only 10% of individuals with primary gliobtastoma live longer than five years. Brain cancer is very aggressive. Ted Kennedy succumbed to the disease 15 months after his illness was diagnosed.

McCain was a contemptible scoundrel, a neocon extremist warmonger, disdainful of virtually everything just societies cherish.

During a May 2013 visit to Syria, he met with ISIS commanders, including its notorious leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, disgracefully saying “it was a very moving experience to meet these fighters who have been struggling now for over two years.”

Calling cutthroat killers moderate rebels, he added “I know who they are. I was in Syria and I met with them.”

Throughout years of US aggression on sovereign independent countries threatening no one, McCain was a leading supporter of US imperial ruthlessness.

He cheerled what demands denunciation, mindless of human pain, suffering and misery caused by US imperial raping and destruction of one nation after another.

Ron Paul Institute’s Daniel McAdams called him “the Energizer Bunny of interventionism.”

During the Obama regime’s coup to replace democracy in Ukraine with illegitimate Nazi-infested fascist rule, he visited Kiev, met with putschists, disgracefully saying “I am proud of what the people of Ukraine are doing.”

From 1993 to 2018, he chaired the International Republican Institute, an organization involved in undermining democratic governments – allied with the anti-democratic National Endowment for Democracy, both groups funded by the State Department, serving Washington’s imperial agenda.

In October 2017, McCain was given a liberty medal instead of a prison sentence, at the time turning truth on its head, saying he “believe(s) in…international peace and stability and to the progress of humanity” – notions he deplored throughout his public life of shame.

He was Washington’s leading warmonger for years, supporting naked aggression and the scourge of terrorism he pretended to oppose.

A notorious Russophobe, he lied saying Putin aims to restore the Soviet empire, claiming he poses a greater threat than ISIS, disgracefully calling the Russian Federation “a gas station masquerading as a country…a kleptocracy,” responsible for naked aggression on Ukraine, “slaughtering” its people.

All of the above and other malicious remarks were disgraceful bald-faced lies by a man who never let cold hard facts interfere with his extremist, destructive worldview.

After interviewing him when a North Vietnamese POW, psychiatrist Fernando Barral called him “an insensitive individual without human depth,” adding:

He “does not show the slightest concern. (He doesn’t) appear to have thought about the criminal acts he committed against a population from the absolute impunity of his airplane, and that nevertheless those people saved his life, fed him, and looked after his health, and he is now healthy and strong.”

“I believe that he has bombed densely populated places for sport. I noted that he was hardened, that he spoke of banal things as if he were at a cocktail party.”

For his unaccountable terror-bombing and political high crimes, a special place in hell awaits McCain.

He was no “tireless voice…the world over” for peace, equity, justice, the rule of law and democratic values – notions he deplored through his public life.
