Screaming Reports on Russian GRU Head’s Death
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Following a long illness, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced the death of its military intelligence chief Igor Korobov, a statement saying:
“Col. Gen. Igor Valentinovich Korobov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and the deputy head of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, died at the age of 62 after a siege of grave illness” – reportedly cancer.
He was wrongfully accused of involvement in the poisoning of Sergey and Yulia Skripal – a clearly staged US/UK false flag, unjustifiably blaming Russia for the stunt they pulled, part of blaming the Kremlin for all sorts of US/Western staged offenses Russian officials had nothing to do with, an indisputable fact – notably the long ago discredited canard about US election meddling.
As long as bipartisan neocons run things in Washington, hostility toward Russia will remain too deep-seated to change, things worsening, not improving.
The notion by Putin and other senior Russian officials of a partnership with the US is dangerously wrongheaded. Moscow unacceptably puts up with repeated US-led Western abuses, without responsibly pushing back – short of declaring war.
Russophobic media reaction to Korobov’s death was true to form, like it always is when it comes to anything about Russia – disinformation, Big Lies and fake news substituting for unbiased truth and full disclosure.
The self-styled newspaper of record NYT repeated one discredited Big Lies after another.
It lied saying Korobov “hack(ed) the (DNC) computers during the United States’ 2016 presidential election…”
No hacking occurred by any party. No evidence suggests otherwise.
The Times lied calling Korobov “Russia’s primary tool of global disruption” – a US-led Western/Israeli specialty, not Russia’s.
The Times lied accusing Korobov of “theft and publication of documents belonging to the presidential campaign of Emmanuel Macron in France, the hacking of computers of the global anti-doping watchdog and the poisoning of a former GRU officer, Sergei V. Skripal, with a highly potent nerve agent in Britain this year.”
All of the above are bald-faced lies. So was blaming Korobov for high crimes committed by Washington and its imperial partners in Ukraine, Syria and elsewhere.
The neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post published a brief AP News report on Korobov’s death, repeating some of the same Big Lies.
The Wall Street Journal’s report was much the same while quoting the GRU, calling Korobov “a true son of Russia (and) a patriot of the Fatherland” – quoting Putin as well, praising him as follows, saying:
“Everyone who knew Igor Valentinovich respected and appreciated him for his high competence, strength of will and courage, honesty and decency, loyalty to the oath and officer’s duty.”
GRU first deputy head Vice Admiral Igor Kostyukov will likely replace him. In March, the Trump regime’s Treasury Department sanctioned Korobov for nonexistent Russian “destabilization activities” – what Republicans and undemocratic Dems do repeatedly worldwide, part of Washington’s imperial agenda.
Haaretz ran a Reuters hatchet job report under the headline: “Russian Military Intelligence Chief, Who Oversaw Botched Spy Poisoning in UK, Dies After ‘Long Illness.’
No responsible editors would touch this rubbish. Haaretz editors featured it, disgracing themselves in the process.
RT commented on deplorable media reporting, saying Korobov’s “death…sen(t) Western media and pundits into tailspin of conspiracy theories” – devoid of substance like always from the West.
