Russian and US Objectives in Syria Worlds Apart
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Russian aerial operations are smashing terrorists in Syria. Washington supports them, massacring civilians instead, along with destroying vital infrastructure.
Over the 10-day September 19 – 29 period, Russian warplanes killed over 2,350 US-supported ISIS and al-Nusra terrorists, according to its Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov.
Offensives by al-Nusra fighters in Syria’s east and west were smashed.
Syrian and allied forces, greatly aided by Russian airpower, “encircle(d) and destroy(ed) a big (ISIS) grouping, which had invaded from Iraq,” Konashenkov explained.
ISIS and al-Nusra terrorists “suffered their biggest losses in recent months. The successful actions of the Syrian military were supported by armed formations, which had joined the reconciliation process in Aleppo, Homs and al-Quneitra.”
“In the sorties of the Russian Aerospace Force between September 19 and 29, the militants confirmed losses are 2,359, and about 2,700 injured.”
“Among them there were 16 field commanders of various levels and more than 400 extremists coming from Russia and the CIS countries.”
“The Aerospace Force have destroyed 67 strongholds, 27 tanks, 21 MLRS, 149 off-road vehicles with heavy machine guns, 17 Jihad-mobiles and 51 ammunition depots” – impressive results along with earlier ones over the past two years, liberating most parts of Syria earlier held by US-supported terrorists.
In the past two days, hundreds more terrorists were eliminated, Konashenkov explained, many more wounded, seven field commanders killed, a training center destroyed – plus nine strongholds, weapons, munitions and equipment.
Since Russia intervened in Syria at the request of its government on September 30, 2015, it conducted an impressive 30,000 sorties, delivered 92,000 strikes on terrorist positions, killing around 58,000 ISIS and al-Nusra fighters.
In contrast, US terror-bombing continues daily, supporting ISIS, al-Nusra, and anti-government Syrian Democratic Forces, massacring civilians.
The latest incident occurred on Monday, slaughtering dozens of noncombatants in Raqqa’s al-Touseeiyah district. Separately in Deir Ezzor province, US warplanes killed a dozen civilians, another seven in Buqrus Fouqani village, including a newborn baby girl.
Residential homes were destroyed in the above incidents, noncombatants alone killed and injured.
Russia together with Syrian and allied ground forces defeated Washington’s plan to destroy the nation’s sovereignty.
America’s objective shifted to try controlling as much Syrian territory as possible, especially northern areas and oil-rich Deir Ezzor province.
Government and allied ground forces together with Russian airpower aim to defeat Washington’s partition plan.
Assad and other Syrian officials vowed to liberate every square meter of the country, eliminating terrorist invaders along with America’s destructive presence.
