Russian Foreign Ministry on Syria, Yemen, and Nonexistent Russian US Election Meddling
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Endless war in Syria continues raging in its eighth year – with no prospect for resolution because the US wants it continued endlessly for regime change.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (MZ below), fighting continues in areas infested with ISIS and other terrorists, notably in Idlib province.
Al Nusra and allied jihadists use the province to launch terrorist attacks on government forces and civilians.
MZ: “An alarming development is that illegal armed groups posing as ‘moderates’ would come to Al-Nusra’s aid, when the government forces responded to its provocations,” adding:
“(T)he real disengagement in Idlib has not been achieved “despite Turkey’s continuing efforts to live up to its commitments under the Russian-Turkish Memorandum of September 17.”
False! It’s because Turkey’s Erdogan failed to live up to his commitment, opposing conflict resolution, wanting Assad toppled, supporting ISIS, al-Nusra and other terrorists throughout years of war – why he can never be trusted, an enemy of Syria and its people.
US warplanes continue massacring civilians on the phony pretext of combating ISIS Washington created and supports.
Russia deserves high praise for facilitating the return of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees this year, along with providing them with vital humanitarian aid – what the US, other countries, and the UN failed to do, aiding US-supported terrorists, not civilian victims of their high crimes.
MZ explained that US forces and jihadists they control continue to hold around 60,000 Syrians hostage in the Rukban refugee camp – terrorizing them, largely denying them vital humanitarian aid, forcing men and youths in the camp to serve as imperial foot soldiers.
A Russian, US, UN meeting in Geneva focused on conditions in the camp, addressing what’s going on without resolution – because it doesn’t serve the Trump regime’s interests to end the suffering of these imperial victims.
Nightmarish conditions ravage millions of Yemenis. War, related violence, untreated diseases, and famine stalk them.
Hundreds of thousands of defenseless Yemeni civilians already perished from endless years of war. Perhaps millions will die without ending it.
MZ: “Developments in Yemen continue to cause grave concern due to the ongoing escalation of armed confrontation,” adding:
The current “epicenter of fighting” is for control over the port city of Hodeidah, controlled by Houthi fighters. It’s the main entry point for what little humanitarian aid gets into the country.
An alleged Saudi/UAE declared ceasefire in and around the city is more fantasy than real. Houthis said their terror-bombing continues.
The battle for the city rages. Saudi-UAE ground attacks were temporarily halted to regroup their forces after suffering heavy losses.
On Friday, Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam said “(i)n every round of aggression against Yemen, the escalation begins and then dies down, mostly without declaring a truce,” adding:
“Given the recent developments in the battle on the ground, the aggressive coalition is trying to pretend that it has halted its attacks (on Hodeidah) in response to global pressure or to allow the dispatch of humanitarian aid, but that’s a big lie.”
The Saudis and UAE are “preparing for a new round of aggression, which needs additional time” – why a pause in ground fighting occurred.
Terror-bombing continues. So will ground attacks once Saudi and UAE troops, along with terrorists and mercenary fighters they control, are prepared to resume aggression on the city.
US midterm elections were held on November 6, nonexistent Russian meddling again cited. “At this rate, Russia will soon be accused of interfering in scout troop leader elections,” said MZ, adding:
“Dozens of US media outlets reported, citing ‘independent analysts’ that over 400 accounts in the American internet segment posted ‘Russian propaganda,’ and that over 100 of them were controlled by Moscow, of course.”
“As usual, no proof was provided. This is nothing new.” This time “some US officials responsible for organizing elections…said that the hacking attempts, if any, were not made from outside but from inside the United States.”
No evidence of electoral interference is ever cited, clearly none linking Russia to meddling in America’s political process.
