Russia Threatening US Midterm Elections?
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Russophobic Big Lies never die. They don’t even fade away. Media scoundrels complicit with bipartisan neocon extremists keep them alive – most people none the wiser.
No evidence suggests the Russian Federation under Putin interfered in any foreign elections – not in America, Europe or anywhere else.
Post-WW II, Washington meddled in foreign elections scores of times, along with conducting political assassinations, staging coups, and waging wars of aggression for regime change.
According to neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post editors, America is “unprepared for another Russian attack on” midterm election voting.
None occurred in November 2016, none aimed at US midterm elections.
WaPo and other media scoundrels lied claiming otherwise. Whatever changes may be required in America’s electoral infrastructure have nothing to do with protecting it from nonexistent Russian threats.
America’s electoral process is bad enough to make some despots blush. US democracy is pure fantasy. None exists.
Electoral fraud is longstanding at the federal, state and local levels. America’s winner-take-all system lacks credibility. So does the Electoral College.
Sixteen times under Electoral College rules, winning presidential candidates won a minority of votes. Winner-take-all rules exclude runoffs. Popular favorites lose more times than people realize.
When half the electorate opts out, presidents can be elected with around one-fourth of eligible voters, hardly a mandate.
Past elections were rife with fraud since the early 19th century. In undemocratic Dem-controlled Chicago, no Republican won a mayoral race since Big Bill Thompson in 1927.
Historian Robert Caro called Lyndon Johnson’s 1948 senatorial primary win the most blatant example of electoral theft in US history.
Ballot fraud was rife. Johnson was behind by 20,000 votes. Final tallies showed him winning by 87. As they say, the rest is history.
Throughout US history, electoral shenanigans repeated time and again, including disenfranchising citizens, Blacks and Latinos most affected.
The 1965 Voting Rights Act was supposed to curb discriminatory practices. It prohibits states from imposing “voting qualifications or prerequisites to voting, or procedures (that may) deny or abridge the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or color.”
It didn’t matter. It still doesn’t. States choose their own electoral procedures. Discriminatory exclusion continues. So do other serious electoral irregularities.
Jimmy Carter once called America’s electoral process “one of the worst” because it’s money-controlled.
Party bosses decide who’ll run. Voters have no say over how the nation is governed.
The problem with America’s electoral system is internal, unrelated to foreign interference – clearly none by Russia.
Not according to WaPo, turning truth on its head claiming “Russian hackers…infiltrated” the system in 2016 – a long ago discredited canard, no evidence proving it.
WaPo cited HR McMaster’s final address, urging tougher sanctions on Russia to discourage electoral meddling, something it’s never done.
WaPo: “Of all the changes the country requires, a shift in presidential attitude could be the quickest and most effective way of responding to election threats.”
Fact: “Of all the changes the country requires,” major media truth-telling is needed most of all.
If the fourth estate reported accurately on world and national issues, holding elected and appointed officials’ feet to the fire, exposing their wrongdoing, America would be fit to live in.
World peace would replace endless wars of aggression. Humanity would be safe, not threatened.
