RT Interviews Sergey Lavrov

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

On Christmas day, RT’s English, Spanish and Arabic correspondents interviewed Lavrov, a world-class diplomat. None of his Western counterparts match his distinction.

He credited his predecessor Evgeny Primakov for envisioning multi-world polarity - world’s apart from America’s exploitive system.

Russia fosters inclusiveness and flexibility, working cooperatively with all nations, opposing imperial lawlessness.

Lavrov criticized Washington’s unfair treatment of RT and Sputnik News, its actions arbitrary and unacceptable.

He called for de-escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula to avoid catastrophic war if launched.

“No sane person would push the situation into an actual war,” he said. “But even when nobody wants a war, an arms race always carries a risk of human error leading to an unwanted escalation.”

Moscow rejects Washington’s intention to strangle North Korea until it submits to its demands. Russia seeks ways to integrate the DPRK into the world community.

Conflict in Syria remains unresolved. Washington supports ISIS remnants, al-Nusra and other terrorists.

“(T)he US has plans for those terrorists, perceiving them as a force that could topple the Syrian government,” Lavrov explained, adding:

“…Washington fails to stick to its own promises.” Its agenda is opposite its pledges.

Conflict resolution in Yemen is unattainable as long Saudi terror-bombing and blockade continue, along with US military operations in the country.

Russia rejects US meddling in Venezuela. Cuba is a longtime traditional partner, Lavrov said, expressing confidence about the country’s future.

Moscow opposes US support for terrorists, using them to topple sovereign independent governments, notably in Syria.

Lavrov is dubious about his Western counterparts’ commitment to peace in the country.

Tillerson used to tell him Washington’s main goal is defeating ISIS - how possible by supporting its fighters, occupying Syrian territory illegally, refusing to leave.

Weeks earlier, Russia’s Reconciliation Center in Syria explained Washington’s New Syrian Army is comprised of ISIS, al-Nusra and other terrorists.

Lavrov is a world-class diplomat, couching his remarks in diplomatic language.

Independent journalists can speak more freely, holding back nothing in expressing views.

Russia is a preeminent peacemaker, America an imperial warmaker, the agendas of both countries irreconcilably different.

Moscow’s best efforts won’t change things. Washington wants its government replaced by a subservient vassal state.

US nuclear war to achieve its objective is ominously possible, including against North Korea and other countries.

Its imperial madness is humanity’s greatest threat.
