Pompeo Vows to Confront Iran Aggressively
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
US imperial rage is the greatest threat to world peace, security and stability. Its endless wars of aggression could escalate into something far more dangerous than already.
Iran is a prime target, regime change plotted by Washington since its 1979 revolution, ending a generation of US-installed fascist tyranny.
On Monday, stiff new illegal sanctions on Iran become effective, targeting its energy sector, petroleum related products, and central bank transactions – a futile attempt to isolate the country politically, economically and financially.
In the latest Foreign Policy issue, Pompeo discussed Trump regime intentions to confront Iran – for its sovereign independence, opposition to its imperial wars, and support for long-suffering Palestinians, not for any threat the country poses.
America’s only national security threats are invented. Real ones don’t exist.
Claims otherwise by Pompeo and other US officials are fabricated – part of the scheme to justify what’s unjustifiable, endless wars of aggression and other hostile actions against other countries, flagrant violations of international and constitutional law.
Washington targets all sovereign independent states for regime change – ones threatening no one.
Pompeo turned truth on its head calling them “outlaw regimes – rogue states that defy international norms, fail to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms, and act against the security of the American people, US allies and partners, and the rest of the world,” adding:
“Chief among these outlaw regimes are North Korea and Iran. Their transgressions against international peace are many…”
Fact: Iran hasn’t attacked another country in centuries – what Washington does repeatedly.
Fact: North Korea didn’t wage war on another country throughout its entire post-WW II history. In June 1950, it was aggressively attacked by the US, its South Korean proxy, and other imperial allies, not the other way around.
Pompeo lied saying “(d)espite Washington’s best efforts at diplomacy, Pyongyang hoodwinked US policymakers with a string of broken arms control agreements going back to the George HW Bush administration.”
Fact: Truth is polar opposite. Washington breached agreements with the DPRK time and again, the Bush/Cheney and Trump regimes the main offenders.
Fact: Post-WW II, Washington spurned Pyongyang’s good faith efforts for normalized relations with the West, hostility toward the country, a pretext for occupying Japan, South Korea, and other regional countries.
America’s military footprint is the region’s only threat, none from the DPRK or China.
Fact: Trump regime hardliners Pompeo, Bolton, and others are as hostile to North Korea as their predecessors, wanting what Kim Jong-un and Trump agreed on in Singapore summit talks undermined.
Pompeo lied claiming the JCPOA “failed to end (Iran’s) nuclear ambitions…”
He lied saying “the deal (gave) Tehran piles of money, which the supreme leader has used to sponsor all types of terrorism throughout the Middle East…”
Fact: Iran abhors nuclear weapons, wanting them all eliminated or they may eliminate us. The nuclear watchdog IAEA repeatedly affirms Tehran’s full compliance with JCPOA provisions.
No evidence suggests otherwise. Accusations by Pompeo and other Trump regime hardliners are bald-faced lies.
Along with Syria and Hezbollah, Iran is involved in combatting the scourge of regional terrorism the US, NATO, Israel, the Saudis, and their imperial partners support.
Under Republicans and undemocratic Dems, America is a pariah state, and “outlaw regime” – not Iran, North Korea or other nations the US targets for regime change.
Pompeo: “…North Korea (is) greater threat today than ever before” – a bald-faced lie.
Pompeo: “(T)he Islamic Republic’s malign influence and terror threat (continues) to grow” – another bald-faced lie.
Israel, the Saudis, Turkey, other despotic regional states, and America’s military presence constitute “malign (regional) influence and (a) terror threat” – not the Islamic Republic, Syria, Hezbollah or Hamas.
Pompeo falsely claimed the US “does not want another longterm military engagement in the Middle East — or in any other region…”
Longstanding US plans call for eliminating sovereign independent governments worldwide by whatever it takes to achieve its objectives, naked aggression its favored strategy.
“Overwhelming military force will always be a” US option, Pompeo roared. Ongoing preemptive wars in multiple theaters clearly show how America operates – disdaining peace and stability, smashing countries unsubmissive to its will.
Pompeo lied claiming “(d)iplomacy and engagement (are) preferable to conflict and hostility” – the former rejected, the latter Washington’s option of choice time and again.
Pompeo lied saying “Trump’s commitment to the American people’s security, combined with his aversion to the unnecessary use of military force and his willingness to talk to adversaries, has provided a new framework for confronting” other nations.
US wars of aggression raging in multiple theaters show how Republicans and undemocratic Dems operate worldwide.
“(N)o regime has more of an outlaw character than” the US, not Iran as Pompeo falsely claimed – along with Syria, the region’s leading proponents of peace and stability.
Endless US aggression prevents it – in the Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa and elsewhere, an agenda Pompeo and likeminded Trump regime hardliners pursue relentlessly.
