Pompeo Declares Energy War on Russia and Other US Adversaries
by Stephen Lendman
Pompeo’s remarks at the Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) conference in Houston on Wednesday provided more clear evidence of the following:
The US republic founded long ago no longer exists, replaced by the imperial state, military Keynesianism, and ruinous military spending while vital homeland needs go begging, social justice disappearing.
America is a nation in decline, an increasingly totalitarian plutocracy, oligarchy and kleptocracy, not a democracy.
US exceptionalism, the indispensable state, moral superiority, and democratic values are pure fantasy.
The US is a warrior state bent on dominating all other nations by whatever it takes to achieve its objectives – naked aggression, color revolutions, and old-fashioned coups its favored strategies.
Its agenda is hostile to world peace, stability, security, equity, justice, a world safe and fit to live in, and humanity’s survival.
The height of its post-WW II power has been declining for decades, notably post-9/11.
It’s following the same pattern that doomed all other empires in history – a nation in decline because of its imperial arrogance, hubris, endless wars against invented enemies, and unwillingness to change.
The Trump regime is the most reckless and extremist in US history – neocon hardliners running its geopolitical agenda, waging war on humanity at home and abroad.
Its agenda risks destroying planet earth and all its life forms.
On Wednesday, Pompeo declared energy war on Washington’s adversaries – notably on Russia, China, Iran, and Venezuela, his remarks punctuated by a litany of bald-faced Big Lies.
He and other Trump regime hardliners want Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline project undermined. They want much more expensive US liquefied natural gas (LNG) replacing it to European markets.
Pompeo: “We don’t want our European allies hooked on Russian gas through the NordStream II project any more than we ourselves want to depend on Venezuela for our oil supplies.”
Fact: The proximity and affordable cost of Russian natural gas makes the nation the most logical supplier to European and East Asian markets.
Fact: The Trump regime coup attempt against Venezuela is all about controlling its world’s largest oil reserves, its other valued resources, eliminating its social democracy, and gaining another imperial trophy – Cuba and Nicaragua next on DLT’s target list for regional regime change.
Pompeo: “We’re not just exporting American energy. We’re exporting our commercial value system to our friends and to our partners.”
Fact: US commercial and other “values” threaten everyone everywhere, humanity’s greatest threat.
Pompeo: “(I)n an era of great power rivalry and competition…some nations are using their energy for malign ends, and not to promote prosperity in the way we do here in the West.”
“They don’t have the values of freedom and liberty, of the rule of law that we do, and they’re using their energy to destroy ours.”
Fact: Pursuing “malign ends” defines US foreign policy, seeking dominance over all other nations, wanting their sovereignty subordinated to US interests.
Fact: Russia pursues different objectives. It seeks world peace, stability, mutual cooperation with other nations, and multi-world polarity – no nation dominating others the way the US operates.
Pompeo lashed out against China, falsely claiming its land reclamation in its own waters is “illegal,” adding:
It’s “blocking development in the South China Sea through coercive means (sic), prevent(ing) ASEAN members from accessing more than $2.5 trillion in recoverable energy reserves (sic).”
The US seeks illegal control over world resources. Pompeo pretended otherwise, falsely claiming “United States government…want(s) countries in the region to have access to their own energy (sic).”
Reserving his strongest venom for Russia, he lied claiming the Kremlin “invaded Ukraine to gain access to oil and gas reserves.”
Russia invaded no other nations, what the US does repeatedly. The Russian Federation has the world’s largest gas reserves. Ukraine’s are minuscule by comparison.
Pompeo: Syria’s “Assad covets the oil fields to the east of the Euphrates River in the eastern part of the country.”
They belong to the Syrian Arab Republic and its people, not the US, not ISIS it controls, not any other foreign power.
Pompeo: “Iran uses its energy exports to exert undue influence all across the Middle East (sic) (fostering) terror and instability throughout the” region.
Fact: Iran hasn’t attacked another nation in centuries, what the US does repeatedly. It seeks cooperative relations with other countries, not dominance the way the US operates.
State terror globally is official US policy. Iran’s outreach to other countries is polar opposite.
Pompeo lashed out against Venezuela and Cuba. His hostile remarks reflected Washington’s imperial agenda, seeking dominance over all other nations, their resources and people.
It’s what the scourge of imperialism is all about – hostile to humanity’s welfare and survival.
