NYT Lynch Mob Mentality
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Lynch mob mentality unacceptably targets individuals like Chelsea Manning and Julian Assange, groups like FARC, Hezbollah and Hamas, as well as nations for regime change like Iran, Venezuela, and numerous victims of US aggression.
US-led Western media support for the above high crimes constitutes private sector lynch mob mentality – Assange in the eye of the storm following his unlawful arrest in London.
He was literally dragged from the Ecuadorian embassy, permission granted by turncoat president Moreno – a scoundrel act in cahoots with the US and UK, selling his soul for special favors granted, selling out the Ecuadorian people the same way, why he’s widely reviled.
On March 30, local pollster Perfiles de Opinion said his approval rating stands at 26.82% – based on survey data collected from March 16 – 18, a random sample of 943 Ecuadorian citizens interviewed.
Half of respondents called his actions as head of state “bad.” Only 17% called him believable. He breached virtually every positive promise made, selling out to internal and foreign special interests, notably to the US.
Last month, Ecuador’s National Assembly ordered a probe into alleged corruption charges against him and over 150 other public officials.
He’s accused of receiving cash, gifts, furniture, and a luxury apartment in Spain from the INA Investment Corp, a Panama tax haven company.
The self-styled newspaper of record NYT is a virtual lynch mob against democratic values, the rule of law, and popular interests by supporting US imperial rage against sovereign independent governments, Wall Street and other monied interests against the general welfare.
Cheerleading Assange’s arrest instead of denouncing it, the Times shamelessly accused him of “dubious judgment.” It lied saying he’s an “embarrassing champion for the principles of press freedom and the public’s right to information,” calling him more an “activist” than “journalist.”
He’s both, mostly the latter, the former and latter by publishing vital information everyone has a right to know – what the Times and other establishment media suppress to their disgrace.
The Times: “For the past seven, he was hiding out (sic) at Ecuador’s…embassy in London, not just from American prosecutors, but also from Swedish sex-crime investigators, who eventually closed their case.”
Fact: He was granted Ecuadorian citizenship and asylum by former honorable President Correa – to protect him from unjust, illegal extradition to Sweden on phony charges, from there to the US.
Fact: Swedish rape and sexual abuse charges were dropped because they were invalid. Assange never should have been falsely accused – a pretext for handing him over to the US through Sweden, a sinister plot not unfolding as planned.
The Times: “Mr. Assange, the world’s most famous self-proclaimed political refugee (sic) continued to run WikiLeaks (sic), conducted news conferences before hundreds of fawning admirers (sic) from a balcony…and played host to a parade (sic) of visitors…”
Fact: What honorable Germans and others in Europe did to protect Jews by giving them safe haven from Nazi arrest, concentration camp internment, enormous suffering, and certain death, Ecuador’s Rafael Correa did for Assange, protecting him, for as long as it lasted, from similar US abuses in its global gulag, including torture as official policy.
Fact: The US under Republicans and undemocratic Dems are today’s Nazis, operating worldwide, threatening everyone everywhere, guilty of the highest of high crimes, risking humanity-destroying nuclear war – what the Times and other establishment media suppress.
Fact: Assange has millions of supporters worldwide for explaining what’s vital to report. Just nations honor courageous figures like him. The US and its imperial partners persecute, torture and murder them, actions the Times and likeminded media cheerlead instead of condemning.
The Times: Assange “made WikiLeaks into an enthusiastic instrument of Russia’s intervention in the American presidential election (sic), doling out hacked (Dem) emails (sic) to maximize their political effect, campaigning against Hillary Clinton on Twitter (sic) and promoting a false cover story about the source of the leaks (sic).”
Fact: It doesn’t get any worse than the above trash – bald-faced Big Lies, reinventing history, a Times specialty, operating as the imperial state’s lead press agent, abandoning journalism the way it’s supposed to be, anathema to Times editors and management.
Instead of denouncing Lenin Moreno for rescinding Assange’s citizenship and asylum status, handing him over to UK authorities for extradition to the US on one phony charge, to be followed almost surely by more serious ones once in US custody, the Times praised the despicable act instead of condemning it.
It bears repeating what I said before. The self-styled newspaper of record is a national disgrace – featuring managed news misinformation and disinformation, suppressing vital hard truths, supporting what demands denunciation.
