Netanyahu Regime Imprisons Ahed Tamimi’s Brother Waed
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
The Netanyahu regime continues terrorizing Tamimi family members – collective punishment, flagrantly violating international law, supported and encouraged by Washington, providing billions of dollars annually for Israel’s killing machine.
The Netanyahu regime ruthlessly persecutes the entire Tamimi family for wanting to live free from oppressive occupation, their fundamental right.
Ahed and her mother Nariman were unlawfully imprisoned for eight months – remaining vulnerable to rearrest, prosecution and imprisonment on fabricated charges.
Her father Bassem was wrongfully imprisoned earlier on phony charges of “sending people to throw stones, and holding a march without a permit,” along with holding weekly peaceful Nabi Salih demonstrations against the illegal Halamish settlement, encroaching on village land, stealing its agricultural property, including its spring water.
Bassem was arrested numerous times before, earlier detained administratively for three years uncharged and untried for advocating nonviolent resistance against Israeli ruthlessness.
Extended Tamimi family members Manal, Bilal and Mohammed were unlawfully arrested earlier in pre-dawn raids.
Tamimi family cousin Musa’ab, aged-17, was lethally shot by Israeli soldiers in the nearby Deir Nizam village. In 2012, Israeli forces lethally shot Rushdi Tamimi for participating in a peaceful protest.
Israeli war minister Avigdor Lieberman earlier accused Tamimi family members of “violence and incitement of terrorism” – bald-faced lies.
Last February, Israeli soldiers arrested 10 Tamimi family members during a pre-dawn raid, including severely wounded Muhammad Fadel al-Tamimi, aged-15.
Last December, Israeli soldiers shot him with a rubber-coated steel bullet at point blank range, blowing away part of his skull.
He underwent two operations to remove skull fragments, leaving him disfigured, requiring reconstructive surgery.
After his arrest, Muhammad was detained and interrogated, forced under duress to falsely claim a bike accident caused his severe head injuries.
Bullets lodged in his skull weren’t there from falling off his bike. He was intimidated to refute the truth about what happened to him.
Following his release after interrogation, he accused Israeli soldiers of trying “to put words in my mouth to confess names of people, because they knew I was scared of being kicked and them touching my head.”
In May, Israeli forces arrested 21-year-old Waed Tamimi pre-dawn, Ahed’s older brother, for “suspected involvement in popular terror acts” – code language for lawfully resisting Israeli ruthlessness.
At the time, Bassem said he had no information about why Waed was arrested or his whereabouts, calling what happened “the policy of the occupation.”
On Tuesday, Waed was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment for stone-throwing and involvement in “violent riots” – what Israel peaceful Palestinian demonstrations.
“The whole case against my son is an admonitory one,” said Bassem. “I consider this to be revenge against the whole family.”
“This sentence was a surprise for us. This stole our moment of joy with Ahed’s release. We don’t expect justice from this system.”
Ahed’s redoubtable resistance virtually assures her rearrest and imprisonment – her life endangered for refusing to stay silent about Israeli high crimes too egregious to ignore.
