Mueller Ends Russiagate Witch Hunt Probe with a Whimper, Not a Bang
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
After nearly two years, millions of dollars spent, and finding no evidence connected to the probe’s mandate, special council Mueller delivered his nothingburger report to Attorney General William Barr on Friday. More on this below.
Russiagate has been a colossal hoax from inception, cooked up by Obama’s Russophobic CIA director John Brennan. DNC/John Podesta emails were leaked, not hacked – an indisputable fact.
Months of House, Senate, and special counsel Mueller probes found no evidence of Russian collusion with Trump to help him triumph over Hillary, nothing suggesting illegal or improper Trump team ties to Moscow.
Since initiated, they were and remain perhaps the most shameful political chapter in US history, McCarthyism on steroids – supported by establishment media, furious about Trump’s triumph over Hillary, wanting revenge for the wrong reasons, largely ignoring plenty of right ones.
From inception in May 2017, Mueller’s politicized probe lacked legitimacy. He never should have been appointed special counsel in the first place.
His conflicts of interest alone should have disqualified him. He’s close to pro-Hillary/sacked anti-Trump FBI director Comey.
He sought reappointment as agency head, serving in the post for 10 years under Bush/Cheney and Obama. Reportedly he interviewed for the job the day before being appointed special counsel.
Indictments of Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, Michael Cohen, Roger Stone, and others had nothing to do with his mandate, nothing connected to phony allegations of possible Trump team/Russia collusion.
House undemocratic Dems reopened the Russiagate probe – despite House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes saying the following last July:
“After more than a year, the committee has finished its Russia investigation and will now work on completing our report. We’re dealing in facts, and we found no evidence of collusion” – no illegal or improper behavior because there was nothing to find.
House Dems continuing the probe is all about aiming to give party members a political advantage in 2020 presidential, congressional, and state elections. It has nothing to do with the probe’s stated purpose.
In a letter to House and Senate Judiciary Committee chairmen and ranking members, AG Barr said “I am reviewing (Mueller’s) report and anticipate that I may be in a position to advise you of the special counsel’s principal conclusions as soon as this weekend.”
Trump’s press secretary Sarah Sanders said “(t)he White House has not received or been briefed on the special counsel’s report.”
DLT’s lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Jay Sekulow said: “We’re pleased that the…special counsel has delivered its report to the attorney general pursuant to the regulations. Attorney General Barr will determine the appropriate next steps.”
Reportedly, Mueller recommended no new indictments, nothing connected to his mandate. Thirty-four individuals indicted had nothing to do with it.
According to a Justice Department official, Mueller’s conclusions will be made public when his report is delivered to Congress.
In a few days, he and his staff will conclude their work sine die. WikiLeaks aims to raise a million dollars to “facilitate the full publication” of Mueller’s report so the public can see it all, ideally unredacted, saying:
“Americans deserve answers. We can’t trust the president or his team’s word when it comes to this story. The public needs to see the Mueller report” – even though it contains no bombshells, nothing related to why the probe was authorized.
Congressional reaction so far was as follows:
House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff said he intends subpoenaing Mueller to testify before the committee.
Top Senate Intelligence Committee member Mark Warner said “(i)t is imperative for Mr. Barr to make the full report public and provide its underlying documentation and findings to Congress.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said “(t)he attorney general…intends to provide as much information as possible. As I have said previously, I sincerely hope he will do so as soon as he can, and with as much openness and transparency as possible.”
Dem House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer issued a joint statement, saying “(i)t is imperative for Mr. Barr to make the full report public and provide its underlying documentation and findings to Congress.”
Mueller’s report is confidential. It’s up to AG Barr, Congress, and the courts to decide what information from it will be made public.
ACLU legal director David Cole stressed the following:
“Elected officials work for the people, and we deserve to see government business conducted in daylight,” adding:
“We urge the Department of Justice to release the report swiftly, once it has minimally redacted any information that is properly withheld.”
“Congress should use its subpoena powers to make sure the truth sees the light of day.”
Bottom line: The public deserves the right to know that Russiagate witch hunt probes by Mueller, the House and Senate uncovered no evidence of Russian US election meddling, no legal or improper Trump team/Kremlin connections.
What’s publicly released and reported by establishment media most likely will fall far short of this reality.
Trump will continue to be targeted by Dems and most establishment media for triumphing in an election he was supposed to lose.
Demonization of Russia will continue for not subordinating its sovereignty to US interests, opposing Washington’s imperial agenda, foiling it in Syria, and most recently for supporting Venezuelan Bolivarian democracy and Maduro’s legitimacy as president.
