Media Scoundrels Want FISA Memo Suppressed

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

Sunshine is the best disinfectant. Media scoundrels prefer darkness on major issues, especially geopolitical ones, wanting their readers and viewers kept uninformed.

GOP Rep. Devin Nunes prepared the Russiagate FISA memo, alleging FBI and Justice Department wrongdoing by high-level officials.

His congressional district Fresno Bee broadsheet accused him of doing Trump’s “dirty work,” saying he’s acting as the president’s “stooge,” adding:

“He certainly isn’t representing his Central Valley constituents or Californians,” caring more about other issues than “the latest conspiracy theory.”

All valid “conspiracy theor(ies)” demand widespread exposure! Like other media scoundrels, the Fresno Bee prefers coverup.

The NYT is going all-out to denigrate the Nunes memo, wanting its information concealed, against any evidence potentially exposing the Russiagate scam.

One column headlined “The Nunes Conspiracy,” calling the memo a way for “House Republicans to cast aspersions on the Russia investigation.” Let’s hope so.

Another headlined “Secret Memo Hints at a New Republican Target: Rod Rosenstein,” calling it “highly contentious,” ignoring its likely accuracy.

An earlier column headlined “The Russian ‘Cycle of Distraction,” mocking the notion that high-level FBI and Justice Department officials might be involved in wrongful Russiagate activities, saying:

“(T)here are multiple reasons to be skeptical of the memo’s claims” – many more wanting alleged high-level Washington wrongdoing exposed.

Times editors headlined “The Republicans’ Real Fake Scandal,” calling Nunes a “conspiracist,” aiming to undermine the Trump/Russia investigation.

A Wednesday article headlined “The Real Aim of the Nunes Memo Is the Mueller Investigation,” saying:

It “has everything to do with defending President Trump from Mr. Mueller’s investigation.”

Anyone targeted by an unacceptable witch-hunt should be defended – whether a high-level official or an ordinary person.

The latest from the Times headlines “FBI Condemns Push to Release Secret Republican Memo,” saying:

“The president’s stance on the memo puts him at odds with much of his national security establishment,” adding:

“The Justice Department has warned repeatedly that the memo, prepared by Republican staff members on the House Intelligence Committee, is misleading and that its release would set a bad precedent for making government secrets public, including sensitive sources of information and methods of intelligence gathering.”

“FBI officials have said privately that the president is prioritizing politics over national security and is putting the bureau’s reputation at risk.”

The bureau and DOJ don’t want their dirty lined publicly revealed – undemocratic Dems as well, conducting a crusade to remove Trump from office for the wrong reasons.

Holding him accountable for war crimes would be the right thing to do. Practically the entire Congress is complicit. Its culpable members should be held accountable along with Trump.

WaPo gave feature op-ed space to undemocratic Dem Adam Schiff’s Nunes smear. He hasn’t read the memo – yet claimed it “potentially reveal(s) intelligence sources and methods.”

Nunes categorically denied the accusations, discussed in a same day article.

According to Schiff, he other GOP lawmakers “have drawn on the stratagem of many criminal defense lawyers – when the evidence against a defendant is strong, put the government on trial.”

“The Nunes memo is designed to do just that by furthering a conspiracy theory that a cabal of senior officials within the FBI and the Justice Department were so tainted by bias against President Trump that they irredeemably poisoned the investigation.”

Washington’s bipartisan criminal class runs things. All culpable public officials should be tried, held accountable for their wrongdoing, removed from office, and replaced by new names and faces unconnected to either right wing of US duopoly power.

The Nunes memo may be released today or Friday, according to the latest information.
