US Media Pretend ISIS Defeated
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Establishment US (and other Western) media operate as press agents for wealth, power and privileged interests – notably supporting their wars of aggression on nations threatening no one.
Substituting rubbish for truth and full disclosure on major issues, they’re a collective lying machine, a laughing stock – anti-journalism, not the real thing.
On what’s been going on in Syria since March 2011, they consistently lie and deceive, calling US aggression “civil war.” There’s nothing remotely “civil” about it – the plot hatched by the Obama regime in cahoots with NATO, Israel and other regional rogue states.
Russia’s intervention in September 2015 to combat US-supported terrorists in Syria foiled its best laid plans. War continues with no end of it in prospect because bipartisan US hardliners reject resolution.
Major US-led Western media also pretend the Pentagon and so-called “coalition” partners (largely Britain, France, Israel, the Saudis, UAE and Jordan) are combatting the scourge of ISIS they support.
The same goes for other jihadists, used as imperial foot soldiers – heavily armed by the West, Israel, and their imperial partners to topple Assad, partition the country, and eliminate Syrian sovereignty.
All wars are based on Big Lies and deception, supported by major media. They wouldn’t get out of the starting gate without them serving as imperial press agents.
Following phony official claims about the non-defeat/defeat of ISIS, the NYT headlined “ISIS Caliphate Crumbles as Last Village in Syria Falls.”
No such “caliphate” existed earlier or now. US-supported terrorist groups in the Middle East and elsewhere are replicas of each other, their names irrelevant, their missions all that matters – serving US imperial interests.
According to Times disinformation, reporting the official narrative exclusively, “(a) four-year military operation to flush the Islamic State from its territory in Iraq and Syria ended on Saturday as the last village held by the terrorist group was retaken, erasing a militant theocracy that once spanned two countries.”
Fact: ISIS and likeminded groups continue to threaten nations where the US deploys them – in Syria and Iraq, operating from US bases, given safe haven cross-border in Turkey, Jordan, and Israeli occupied Golan.
Claiming ISIS is defeated in Syria and Iraq is state-sponsored propaganda, repeated by establishment media, ignoring reality on the ground.
The Times embarrassed itself, saying “a grueling campaign, the last speck of land was finally wrested from the Islamic State.”
At the same time, the self-styled newspaper of record said it “remains a serious threat (because) (m)any of its top leaders are still alive” – failing to explain they’re given safe haven on US bases and by its imperial allies.
Nor explaining that the Pentagon, CIA, and their counterparts in allied regimes continue to replenish their ranks. The Times saying ISIS “is now a diminished force compared to its zenith four years ago” is meaningless.
Terrorist proxies by their various names serve as US ground troops, countless thousands deployed in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya and elsewhere.
Their ranks can be increased to whatever levels US military planners intend. It’s irrelevant whether they’re called ISIS, al-Qaeda, al-Nusra, or anything else. They’re virtual replicas of each other – what the Times and other Western media never explain, nor that they serve US imperial interests.
According to the neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post,”(t)he (nonexistent) ‘caliphate’ is no more, (b)ut the Islamic State isn’t finished yet,” adding:
“US-backed forces declared the final defeat of the Islamic State’s self-declared caliphate Saturday, bringing to an end the brutal experiment in state building that had lured foot soldiers from around the world and inflicted unimaginable suffering on those caught up in the militants’ rampage through Iraq and Syria.”
Reality is far different from the above remarks. The US and its imperial partners continue supporting the scourge of terrorism wherever its fighters are deployed.
There’s no shortage of crazies to fill their ranks. Like crabgrass, they’re everywhere in unlimited numbers.
The Wall Street Journal joined the ISIS is defeated chorus, saying “(t)he demise (sic) of the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate (sic) comes as President Trump prepares to pull US troops from Syria (sic).”
ISIS and likeminded jihadist groups are far from defeated. Reports claiming it are greatly exaggerated.
The US plans permanent occupation of northern and southern Syria, along with strategic parts of Iraq, and elsewhere in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa.
The struggle to end ongoing US wars of aggression continues because bipartisan hardliners in Washington reject resolution.
