Easter Sunday Anti-Venezuela Propaganda
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Trump regime rage to transform sovereign Venezuela into a US vassal state takes no holidays.
Its eyes are on the prize of the world’s largest oil reserves, along with wanting the Bolivarian threat of a good example eliminated, gaining another imperial trophy.
US war on Venezuela by other means mars Holy Week events, culminating today on Easter Sunday.
Venezuelans celebrate the occasion with families and friends – at home, in neighborhoods, markets, churches, and enjoying the warmth of outdoors – today in the mid-70s.
Processions reenact the Last Days and resurrection. US coup plotters ignore Christ’s Sermon on the Mount message.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the sons of God,” he said. “Blessed are the poor…the merciful…the pure in heart…”
In his Sunday Urbi et Orbi papal address and apostolic blessing on the Christian world’s holy day, Pope Francis discussed conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Libya, Palestine, Ukraine, Venezuela, and elsewhere – without placing blame where it belongs.
US dirty hands are involved worldwide, part of its imperial rage to dominate other countries, wanting puppet rule it controls replacing their sovereign independence.
On Easter Sunday and all other days, the “beginning of a new world…a kingdom of love, peace and fraternity” Francis noted is nonexistent – notions the US and its imperial partners abhor, the Vatican supporting what demands denunciation, pretending otherwise.
Francis’ high-minded rhetoric belies papal tradition, supporting wealth, power and privileged interests, paying lip service alone to democratic values, popular needs and welfare.
Saying “(n)ow is…the time for a renewed commitment for a political solution (in Syria) able to respond to people’s legitimate hopes for freedom, peace and justice” ignores US rage for endless war and regime change — the same true in all its war theaters, along with governments everywhere it wants toppled.
“I think in particular of the Venezuelan people, of all those who lack the minimal conditions for leading a dignified and secure life due to a crisis that endures and worsens,” Francis said, ignoring reality on the ground, adding:
“May the Lord grant that all those with political responsibilities may work to end social injustices (sic), abuses and acts of violence (sic), and take the concrete steps needed to heal divisions and offer the population the help they need (sic).”
The Holy See is hostile to liberation theology. It opposes social justice in Venezuela and everywhere else.
Francis follows Vatican tradition, supporting the oppressors, not the oppressed, in Venezuela and elsewhere.
The Holy See backs the position of Venezuelan bishops, calling democratically elected and reelected President Maduro illegitimate – recognizing imposter Guaido as interim president, supporting the Trump regime’s coop plot.
The Vatican has been hostile to Bolivarian social justice since Hugo Chavez’s December 1998 election.
Venezuelan bishops condemned the arrest of Guaido henchman Roberto Marrero, falsely calling it a constitutional breach, a violation of his human rights – ignoring his involvement in the Trump regime’s plot to oust Maduro and eliminate Bolivarian social democracy.
Instead of denouncing the coup plot, Francis pretends neutrality. When it comes to international law support for the rights of sovereign states and their people, neutrality is a nonstarter.
There’s nothing neutral when it comes to respecting Venezuela’s sovereign independence from from illegal foreign interference to eliminate it or going along with the plot – a Nuremberg-level high crime against humanity, supported by the Holy See instead of condemning it.
On Easter Sunday, the Los Angeles Times claimed “(i)n Venezuela, life has gone from bad to worse (sic)…The world has quit noticing,” adding:
“(R)adio stations have been shut down by…Maduro…and had their equipment confiscated” – a bald-faced Big Lie.
“(W)hen opposition leader Juan Guaido challenged President Nicolas Maduro, everybody thought this was the beginning of something new” – failing to denounce the Trump regime’s coup plot and Guaido’s illegitimacy.
“(P)rotests have gotten smaller, and the protesters’ resolve has waned. Venezuelans are tired,” said the LA Times.
Maduro draws huge crowds, support for Guaido concentrated in more well-off areas. Most Venezuelans revile him, what the LA Times and other establishment media fail to explain – supporting the Trump regime’s coup plot instead of denouncing its high crime against humanity.
State Department anti-Venezuela propaganda calls the hemisphere’s preeminent social democracy “authoritarian,” its world’s best electoral process “deeply flawed.”
It falsely accused Maduro’s government of “extrajudicial killings (a US specialty)” and other human rights abuses, the US notorious for them at home and abroad, not Venezuela.
It lied saying the Bolivarian Republic “restrict(s) free expression,” along with “us(ing) violence to repress peaceful demonstrations.” Polar opposite is true.
Venezuela treats all its people equitably. It never attacked or threatened another country.
Governance in the US is polar opposite, totalitarian rule increasingly the new normal, social justice fast eroding, heading toward elimination altogether, its discretionary income used largely for militarism, naked aggression, toppling sovereign independent states by other means, and corporate handouts.
Bolivarian Venezuela respects the rule of law and democratic governance the way it’s supposed to be.
Hypocrisy, not democracy, defines how the US is governed – for its privileged few exclusively at the expense of the general welfare.
Its rage for global dominance threatens everyone everywhere – on Easter and all other days every year.
