Deputy FBI Director Fired

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

On January 30, deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe resigned, effective immediately, saying he’d remain on the bureau payroll until eligible to retire with full benefits in mid-March.

According to Rep. Devin Nunes’ classified memo approved for release by Trump, McCabe, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, along with former FBI Director James Comey were named as culpable parties involved in extensive Russiagate FISA abuses.

On Friday, one day before McCabe’s eligibility to retire with full benefits, Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired him, saying:

“Pursuant to Department Order 1202, and based on the report of the Inspector General, the findings of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility, and the recommendation of the Department’s senior career official, I have terminated the employment of Andrew McCabe effective immediately.”

Trump tweeted: “Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hardworking men and women of the FBI – A great day for Democracy.”

“Sanctimonious (former FBI director) James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!”

Firing isn’t enough. He, Comey and Deputy Attorney general Rosenstein should be held fully accountable for their Russiagate FISA abuses – what hasn’t happened and is unlikely.

Since early 2018, the FBI stonewalled a judicial order to hand over McCabe’s emails, text messages, and other electronic communications to Judicial Watch from its October 2016 FOIA lawsuit.

These comminications contain information related to the FBI’s refusal to hold Hillary Clinton responsible for sending and receiving classified State Department information through her private server, then lying about it, a federal offense.

According to Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton, “(t)he FBI has been playing games with text messages for some time.”

“The arrogance in refusing to provide any text messages of Mr. McCabe shows a contempt for transparency and the rule of law.”

Justice Department inspector general Michael Horowitz said McCabe leaked sensitive information to the media about the Hillary investigation, then lied about it.

McCabe issued a statement, saying “I chose to share (bureau information) with a reporter through my public affairs officer and a legal counselor.”

“As deputy director, I was one of only a few people who had the authority to do that. It was not a secret. It took place over several days, and others, including the director, were aware of the interaction with the reporter.”

McCabe is also accused of receiving $500,000 from Hillary for his wife’s Virginia State senatorial campaign – almost a million dollars more from Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.

The FBI whitewashed its investigation of Hillary’s wrongdoing, then-director Comey calling her criminality “extreme carelessness,” exonerating her, instead of recommending prosecution.

Comey obstructed justice, perhaps McCabe directly involved.

Exonerating Hillary showed ordinary Americans are held to one standard, privileged ones another – the way things work in America.
