It’s shameful stuff - a daily print and electronic blitzkrieg, manipulating public sentiment, suppressing vital truths on major issues, feeding news and information consumers with toxic rubbish.
It’s willful deception, serving the imperial state and privileged interests exclusively, harmful to world peace, equity and justice.
The NYT directs much of its editorial energy to Trump and Russia bashing, readers fed an endless onslaught of disinformation.
In an editorial headlined “Donald Trump Sure Has a Problem with Democracy,” it quoted from George Washington’s farewell address, warning against what today would be called the imperial presidency.
In his book by this title, historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. warned of the US presidency becoming uncontrollable, exceeding its constitutional limits, one of George Washington’s concerns in his farewell address.
The Times quoted his concern about consolidated power leading to despotism, omitting other important comments from his writings.
He called a large standing army “in a time of Peace…dangerous to the liberties of a Country,” urging “a few (only) Troops (as) indispensably necessary.”
He warned against foreign entanglements, the defining feature of US geopolitics today.
He expressed concern about relations with other countries, drawing America into destructive foreign wars - the way NATO operates, an alliance for endless wars, not keeping the peace.
The Times quoted Trump’s off-the-cuff remark about China’s new electoral rule, letting presidents remain in office perhaps indefinitely, saying “(m)aybe we’ll have to give that a shot some day” to mean perhaps he wants to remain president for life.
If Obama or the Clintons made the same remark, it would have gone unnoticed. Coming from Trump, he was bashed in a lead editorial.
It’s typical Times misreporting. Instead of wanting Trump, his predecessors, and other US officials held accountable for high crimes of war and against humanity, supporting corporate predation, and freedom-destroying police state laws, it focused on an isolated Trump remark amounting to nothing.
Claiming he has a problem with democracy ignored its nonexistence in America - a plutocracy serving privileged interests exclusively, left unexplained by the Times and other media scoundrels.
Separately, a neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post opinion piece compared democrat Vladimir Putin to despotic Egyptian leader Abdel Fatah al-Sissi - accusing them of “embrac(ing) neo-totalitarianism,” elections in both countries coming later in March.
Russia’s process is democratic. Since at least the time of the pharaohs, Egypt lacked governance approaching what democracy is supposed to be.
Putin’s overwhelming popularity assures his reelection for another six-year term. Sissi’s self-anointment assures maintaining power, notably by banishing opposition candidates able to challenge his rule electorally.
WaPo called the process in both countries “not real elections,” claiming they’re “Potemkin pageants that will award the two strongmen overwhelming victories, thanks in part to the exclusion of all serious opponents.”
As usual, WaPo turns truth on its head on Russia. Eight candidates seek its presidency on March 18. Impartial monitors are invited to observe the process.
Unlike America, Egypt, and other rogue states, Russian Federation elections are scrupulously open, free and fair.
Claims otherwise by WaPo and other US media scoundrels consistently abandon truth-telling on Russia - and most other important issues, all geopolitical ones.
