CW Attack by US Supported Terrorists on Aleppo

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.orgHome – Stephen Lendman)

It was just a matter of time before the next incident – likely orchestrated by Washington and its imperial partners like many times before.

Toxic and other banned weapons use is longstanding US policy. Its wars of aggression feature anything goes – laws of war repeatedly breached unaccountably.

The latest CW incident occurred in Aleppo, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reporting the following:

“Terrorist organizations positioned in (the) Aleppo countryside fired shells containing toxic gases on the neighborhoods of al-Khalidyia, al-Neel Street and Jam’ayat al-Zahra in Aleppo City,” adding:

“Chief of Aleppo Police Major General Issam al-Shilli said in a statement that terrorist groups on Saturday evening targeted residential neighborhoods in Aleppo City with explosive rocket shells that contain toxic gases.”

Shilli blamed the incident on (US supported) al-Nusra terrorists. In response, government forces shelled their positions.

Unless treated as quickly as possible, toxic chlorine inhalation can cause asphyxiation and other severe respiratory problems. According to area hospital sources, 107 civilians were admitted, suffering from what’s believed to be chlorine gas inhalation, acute cases in intensive care.

The latest incident came “days after local sources revealed that French terrorists arrived in Idlib through the borders with Turkey to supply missiles with toxic gases with the aim of using them inside the Syrian territories,” SANA reported.

Shells, other munitions, and heavy weapons come from the US, UK, France, Turkey, the Saudis, Israel, and other countries partnered in Washington’s war of aggression on Syria.

Sarin, chlorine, and other toxins are delivered to ISIS and other jihadists cross-border from Turkey, Jordan, and likely Israel.

Syrian media reported at least 100 civilians injured in the latest attack. According to Aleppo’s health director Ziad Haj Taha, government forces saved many lives by rapidly transporting many victims to hospitals for treatment.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov said the following:

Russian personnel “from the observation posts of the radiation, chemical and biological protection units with special equipment stationed in Syria arrived to the area of shelling urgently.”

“They work with the injured taken to medical institutions, monitor the situation in the area where the militants used poisonous substances,” adding:

“According to preliminary confirmed data, in particular, by the symptoms of poisoned victims, the shells that were fired at residential areas of Aleppo had been filled with chlorine.”

Al-Qaeda-connected White Helmets were likely involved. “It is clear that (they) are directly connected with terrorist organizations operating in Syria, and in particular, in the Idlib de-escalation zone.”

Russia’s Defense Ministry said shells filled with chlorine were fired at northwestern districts of Aleppo from Idlib’s de-escalation zone – “for which the Turkish side is responsible,” Konashenkov stressed.

Nearly two-and-a half months after Russia and Turkey agreed on establishing a demilitarized zone in Idlib, US/NATO/and Ankara supported terrorists retain their heavy weapons and munitions – using the territory they control as a platform to attack government forces and civilians.

Idlib province is the last major US supported terrorist stronghold in Syria. Diplomacy failed so far. It involves achieving the unattainable – getting heavily armed jihadists to voluntarily leave the established demilitarized zone, along with surrendering their heavy weapons.

Delaying Idlib’s liberation let al-Nusra and other terrorist increase their ranks cross-border from Turkey and become more heavily armed.

It was never clear how Russia hoped to achieve its objective in the province by relying on Erdogan’s cooperation. He opposes Assad, wants him toppled, and aims to annex northern Syrian territory.

He can never be trusted. He’s part of the problem in Syria, not the solution. Throughout nearly eight years of war, he supported anti-government terrorists, permitting them to freely operate cross-border from safe haven given them in Turkey.

He plays the US and Russia cards simultaneously, serving his own self-interest, pretending to want diplomatic conflict resolution while maintaining a military posture in northern Syria. Washington and Russia OK’d his aggression against Kurdish YPG fighters the US supports against Assad.

In mid-September, Putin suspended a vital ground and aerial operation to liberate Idlib province from US-supported terrorists – going along with Erdogan and Trump.

Appeasing them and Israel is defeatist. Failure to confront their aggression encourages more of it. Liberating Idlib is long overdue.

Triumphing over Washington’s imperial aims in the country depends on it. Assad promised to liberate every square inch of Syrian territory from ISIS, al-Nusra and other terrorists.

Diplomacy failed to liberate Idlib. Ground and aerial operations are needed – supported by Russian airpower. Delay makes it all the harder.

Infested with many thousands of heavily armed al-Nusra and other US supported terrorists, the mother of all battles in the country remains to be waged.

Until then, US supported jihadists will continue terrorizing residents, along with using territory they control to attack government forces and civilians – including CW attacks like the latest incident.

A Final Comment

The neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post published an AP News report on the CW attack in Aleppo, saying:

Anti-government forces “dismissed government accusations they used poison gas to attack government-held Aleppo city.”

Jihadist commander Abdel-Salam Abdel-Razak lied, saying “the opposition doesn’t possess poisonous gases or the capabilities to lob them.”

Key is what follows in the aftermath of the latest CW incident. Trump regime hardliners (along with their UK and French counterparts) vowed to terror-bomb Syrian targets in response to another CW attack.

Throughout years of war, Washington used false flag incidents (like the latest one) as pretexts to attack Syrian sites and government forces.

It remains to be seen what’s coming this time.
