Trump Bashed for Congratulating Putin on His Reelection Triumph

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Along with European Commission President Jean-Claude Junker, leaders from over 30 nations congratulated Putin on his overwhelming reelection triumph.

They include America, Bolivia, China, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, North Korea, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Syria, and Venezuela among others.

Media scoundrels jumped on Trump for calling Putin to congratulate him, a disgraceful expected response.

The NYT bashed him, saying he “did not raise with (Putin) the lopsided nature of his victory, Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election, or Moscow’s role in a nerve agent attack on a former Russian spy and his daughter living in Britain.”

Fact: Consensus from hundreds of monitors judged Russia’s election open, free and fair - democracy the way it should be.

Fact: The whole world knows no Russian meddling in America’s electoral process occurred. The Times, other media scoundrels, undemocratic Dems, and other Russophobes pretend otherwise.

Fact: Not a shred of evidence suggests Russian involvement in whatever happened to father and daughter Skripal - a likely US/UK false flag, wrongfully blamed on the Kremlin, a diabolical dirty trick, evident to anyone paying attention.

The Times quoted neocon GOP Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell’s bald-faced lie, saying:

“When I look at a Russian election, what I see is a lack of credibility in tallying the results. Calling (Putin) wouldn’t have been high on my list” - a disgraceful remark, typical Russophobic Capitol Hill sentiment.

Neocon John McCain embarrassed himself, saying “(a)n American president does not lead the free world by congratulating dictators on winning sham elections,” adding:

“And by doing so with Vladimir Putin, President Trump insulted every Russian citizen who was denied the right to vote in a free and fair election to determine their country’s future, including the countless Russian patriots who have risked so much to protest and resist” Putin.

His remarks were outrageous, scurrilous, and moronic. The Times disgracefully published them - including an OECD statement, turning truth on its head, saying:

“Restrictions on the fundamental freedoms of assembly, association and expression, as well as on candidate registration, have limited the space for political engagement and resulted in a lack of genuine competition.”

No restrictions existed, nothing curbing freedom of expression or assembly, nothing compromising an open, free and fair electoral process.

Eight candidates competed. It could have been many more if others chose to run.

The neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post said Trump failed to heed advice from his security advisers, telling him not to congratulate Putin.

“He did it anyway,” said WaPo. So did leaders from over 30 other nations worldwide.

WaPo: “Putin’s latest consolidation of power came in what foreign policy analysts said was a rigged election in which he got 76 percent of the vote against several minor candidates.”

“Some world leaders have hesitated to congratulate Putin, since his reelection occurred in an environment of state control of much of the news media and with his most prominent opponent barred from the ballot.”

So-called self-styled unnamed “policy analysts” are Russophobic liars. Putin’s triumph reflected his overwhelming popularity.

Russian media shame their US-led Western counterparts -  US and European ones reporting all propaganda all the time on vital issues, notably geopolitical ones.

The so-called “most prominent opponent” refers to Western favorite, political nobody, convicted embezzler Alexey Navalny. Most Russians despise him.

Russophobic CNN headlined “Why Trump won’t call Putin’s election win a ‘sham,’ “ calling his relationship with Russia’s leader “puzzling,” repeating the litany of Big Lies about the country it reports almost daily.

CNN is the most distrusted name in television news, a disinformation mouthpiece, why it’s losing viewers, growing numbers rejecting its rubbish.

Vladimir Putin is the preeminent world leader. No one in the West matches his stature, his commitment to world peace and stability.
