Raging Anti-Venezuela Propaganda War

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Whenever the US goes to war, plans one, or aims to topple a sitting government unwilling to bend to its will, major media salute, cheerleading what demands denunciation.

The first casualty always is truth-telling, media operating as imperial tools, sticking with the official narrative, suppressing what’s vital to report, shutting out debate, banishing alternative views - no matter how unlawful US policies.

That’s how prostitutes of the press operate, filtering news, information and opinion, marginalizing dissent, supporting powerful interests, ignoring the rule of law.

What’s going on in Venezuela is brazenly illegal, the Trump regime attempting an old-fashioned coup d’etat, a longstanding US speciality, along with its endless wars of aggression, color revolutions and political assassinations.

NYT editors turned truth on its head, calling democratically elected and reelected Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro an illegitimate “strongman.”

Mocking him, the Times said he’s “defiantly” standing his ground,  “railing against ‘coups’ and ‘gringo interventions,’ ” adding:

“That Mr. Maduro must go has been obvious for some time” - ignoring democratic governance, the rule of law, Venezuela’s model electoral system, and America’s longstanding history of illegally intervening against sitting governments worldwide since the 19th century, especially post-WW II, part of its scheme for global dominance the Times and other major media support to their disgrace.

Chavez and Maduro didn’t create crisis conditions in Venezuela. US economic, financial and sanctions war bears full responsibility. Low oil prices exacerbated things. More below on their variance over the past decade.

Neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post editors blamed Venezuela’s leadership for 20 years of US aims to wreck its economy and topple its legitimate governance.

The Wall Street Journal turned truth on its head, calling Maduro “Putin’s man in Caracas,” saying the decline in Venezuelan oil production is “a massive windfall for Russia,” adding:

“It slashes the global oil supply and supports the higher energy prices on which Vladimir Putin’s power depends.”

From a peak price of over $160 a barrel a decade ago, a recent high of $73 last September, the price of crude oil in America today is around $54 a barrel, compounding Venezuela’s troubles, polar opposite a boon for oil producing countries, including Russia.

Journal editors turned truth on its head, saying Maduro’s “own people and the free world are against him” - ignoring his overwhelming free, fair, and open reelection, nations against him an array of US vassal states, obeying their master in Washington.

US establishment media are in lockstep with the Trump regime’s attempted coup, opposing the rule of law, supporting what no responsible editors would tolerate.

Reuters: “Watching my nation implode” - ignoring flagrantly illegal US economic, financial, and sanctions war.

AP News: “Venezuela Undone” - failing to lay blame where it belongs.

Chicago Tribune: “Trump’s effort to oust Venezuela’s despot” - aiming to install one by eliminating democratic governance.

Miami Herald: “Venezuelans can take the lead in getting rid of dictator Nicolas Maduro” - Big Lies repeated enough take on a life of their own.

Boston Globe: “Hope for Venezuela” - only through people power for democrat Maduro, along with continued support from the country’s military, and other governments for the rule of law over the Trump regime’s attempted coup.

CNN: “As Venezuela creeps towards starvation, soldiers lose patience” - two Big Lies wrapped in the disinformation and fake news that followed.

Fox News: “(P)raise (for) White House pressure on Venezuela’s Maduro.”

Virtually major media headlines, commentaries, and reports support imperial lawlessness over rule of law principles and democratic governance.

On January 25, Trump regime hardliners stole Venezuelan assets held in the US, falsely claiming authorization under Section 25B of the Federal Reserve Act.

The provision has nothing to do with stealing the assets of a foreign government held at a Federal Reserve bank or any others in the country.

The US is a gangster state run by bipartisan criminals, waging war on humanity at home and abroad - Venezuela a prime target for the curse of having the world’s largest oil reserves.

The UN is part of the problem, blaming Venezuelan authorities for US orchestrated crimes in the streets against ordinary people wanting social democratic governance free from foreign interference the Trump regime denies them.
