The NYT: Inventing Reasons to Bash Russia

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Operating like a ministry of state propaganda, The Times crusades against Russia, disgracefully bashing a sovereign independent nation.

Other media scoundrels operate the same way - discarding truth-telling, featuring malicious propaganda.

“Russia Uses Its Oil Giant, Rosneft, as a Foreign Policy Tool,” the Times headlined.

The Times supports Big Oil monopolizing hydrocarbon resources, including in nations Washington occupies and others it’s targeting like Venezuela.

It opposes virtually everything related to Russia, how it’s governed, and the right of its state enterprises to operate free from foreign interference.

The Times: “Russia is increasingly wielding oil as a geopolitical tool, spreading its influence around the world and challenging the interests of the United States.”

Fact: Russia seeks mutual cooperation with all other nations. America pursues global dominance, wanting pro-Western puppet regimes in power serving its interests.

Fact: The Times resents close Russian/Venezuelan relations, including financial support. On a visit to Moscow, President Nicolas Maduro thanked Putin “for (his) support, both political and diplomatic.”

Important financial help was provided. Rosneft bought a near-50% interest in Citgo, Venezuela’s state oil company PDVSA’s US refining subsidiary.

Fact: Oil giant Rosneft has a right to operate anywhere globally, seeking market opportunities to increase sales and profits.

The Times objects, saying Russia “has been pushing deeply into politically sensitive countries like Cuba, China, Egypt and Vietnam, as well as tumultuous places where American interests are at stake” - including Africa and northern Iraq.

Unlike Washington, Russia has close relations with Iran, both countries oil rich.

The Times invents reasons to bash Russia, including fake accusations of “aggression” in Ukraine and nonexistent US election interference.

The anti-Russia drumbeat is relentless, inventing reasons to criticize when no legitimate geopolitical ones exist.
