Defending America Against Nonexistent Malign Russian Activities

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Bipartisan Russia bashing, false accusations, sanctions, deep-seated hostility, and all rest have nothing to do with Kremlin actions, nothing to do with fake claims of Russian US election meddling - a US specialty, not Moscow’s.

They have everything to do with Russia’s sovereign independence, its opposition to Washington’s imperial agenda, its defeating US aggression in Syria, and its military superiority with super-weapons exceeding the Pentagon’s best, making it the world’s sole super-power, America no longer No. 1.

Reality drives Pentagon commanders and neocons crazy. Attacking Russia would be suicide. Thermonuclear weapons on both sides could also end life on earth, an ominous possibility given Washington’s rage for endless wars against all nations it doesn’t control.

The bipartisan Defending American Security from Kremlin Aggression Act of 2018 (DASKA) has nothing to do with protecting US security or Russian aggression that doesn’t exist.

Putin supports world peace and stability. The Russian Federation never attacked another country during or before his tenure - what America does repeatedly, waging permanent war on humanity at home and abroad.

Washington is infested with bipartisan neocon lunatics like Senator Lindsey Graham. Endorsing DASKA legislation, he roared:

“Our goal is to change the status quo and impose crushing sanctions and other measures against Putins Russia until he ceases and desists (nonexistent) meddling in the US electoral process, halts (nonexistent) cyberattacks on US infrastructure, removes (nonexistent) Russia(n) (forces) from Ukraine…ceases (nonexistent) efforts to create chaos in Syria” - and stops nonexistent Kremlin “malign” actions.

Multiple rounds of illegal US sanctions on Russia were imposed earlier, including from the so-called Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act - targeting Iran, North Korea and Moscow.

Trump signed it into law, despite saying it’s “significantly flawed,” including “clearly unconstitutional provisions,” encroaching on presidential authority to negotiate, “driv(ing) China, Russia and North Korea much closer together,” along with antagonizing EU allies.

The measure saying it’s up to Russia “to improve relations with the United States” arrogantly ignored full US responsibility for deplorable hostility toward a sovereign state without just cause, bilateral relations more dismal since the legislation became law.

Provisions target Russia’s energy and pipeline projects, its financial institutions, defense and intelligence sectors, investments in privatization of state enterprises, and helping Syrian forces defend the nation against US-supported terrorists, aided by Pentagon and Israeli terror-bombing.

DASKA legislation aims to hit Russia harder. It’s unclear if it has enough congressional support to pass, let alone able to override a possible Trump veto if the bill reaches his desk.

If enacted into law, Moscow will surely retaliate appropriately. An unnamed Kremlin source said the following:

If false accusations against Moscow “give (Russophobes in Washington) the right to cause economic damage and deal a blow to the nation’s welfare, it’s not surprising that Russia could draw up measures, including military and strategic ones, which can result in irreparable losses for the Americans’ economy and profits,” adding:

“I won’t be surprised if soon Russia reviewed some its international commitments given the changes in the international situation.”

“One should always remember that particular commitments were made in a certain international and legal context.”

“The United States is showing this to the entire world today by renouncing its international commitments every day, including in the sphere of control over non-proliferation of nuclear weapons (deal with Iran) and also in tariff and non-tariff protectionism in trade.”

Longstanding bipartisan US policy calls for marginalizing, weakening, containing and isolating Russia - a failed strategy, yet it persists.

Putin earlier said Western nations are “constantly trying to sweep us into a corner because we have an independent position, because we maintain it, and because we call things like they are and do not engage in hypocrisy.”

He also said “(t)hey will always try to chain the bear. And once it’s chained, they’ll rip out its teeth and claws. They’ll stuff it.”

They want Russia co-opted. “They (falsely) think they have won. Do we want relations on an equal basis? Yes, we do, but on the condition that our national interests are respected in the sphere of security and in the sphere of economy.”

Sergey Lavrov earlier said “(w)e have repeatedly stressed that attempts to speak to Russia using the language of ultimatums is totally unacceptable and will yield no results.”

Washington continues pursuing an anti-Russia agenda that hasn’t worked so far and won’t ahead.

It risks unthinkable war between the world’s dominant nuclear powers, the ultimate nightmare scenario if launched.

Russia has no intention of being turned into a “soft toy,” Putin stressed. If attacked, it’ll defend its sovereignty with formidable military might.
