World Community Turns a Blind Eye to Israeli High Crimes

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

US-dominated NATO and Israel represent the greatest threat to world peace, stability and security - waging endless aggression to achieve their imperial aims, threatening everyone everywhere.

Long-suffering Palestinians have endured Israeli ruthlessness for 70 years without letup.

Things today are worse than ever under increasingly harsh apartheid conditions, including endless ethnic cleansing, indigenous Palestinians forcefully removed from land Israel wants for exclusive Jewish development and use.

Along with Gaza, Khan al-Ahmar village is in the eye of the endless storm raging throughout the Territories.

It’s home to about 180 Palestinian Bedouin residents, their village located between two illegal Israeli settlements near Jerusalem.

They’ve been viciously harassed by Israeli authorities – denied access to electricity, water and other essential services, earmarked for removal.

On September 5, Israel’s High Court authorized illegal demolition of the village and ethnic cleaning of its residents - supporting occupation harshness instead of denouncing it, practically ignoring its existence.

Its shameful ruling proved again that justice for Palestinians is unattainable. World community indifference toward their fundamental right lets Israel do whatever it damn pleases with impunity - no matter how flagrantly lawless and vicious.

Demolishing Khan al-Ahmar and forcefully removing its residents is a war crime, Israeli High Court justices complicit in what’s going on, mocking rule of law principles.

In response to its ruling, B’Tselem executive director Hagai El-Ad wrote to EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini, calling for her to intervene against Israel’s lawless demolition and ethnic cleansing.

Last July, she said destroying the community would have serious consequences. In his letter, El-Ad stressed that “we have reached the juncture where it appears that these serious consequences must be spelled out if the EU is to credibly back its own positions,” adding:

In its occupation-serving ruling, Israeli High Court Justices “ignored both the context of a completely one-sided planning regime, where building ‘legally’ is an option reserved for settlers and denied from protected persons – as well as the broader Israeli intention, to minimize Palestinian presence throughout Area C, displace local communities, and expand settlements.”

The EU has leverage and influence when used. Along with Washington, it consistently ignores repeated Israeli high crimes and other grievous human rights abuses - including theft of all valued parts of historic Palestine for exclusive Jewish development and use.

Bedouin Khan al-Ahmar residents were earlier ethnically cleansed from Negev territory in the 1950s - again later to make way for the illegal Ma’ale Adumim settlement. Israel now wants them removed from their current homes, disdainful of their rights.

Displacing them again along with hundreds of Abu Nuwar villagers will divide the West Bank in two, Israel’s demonic aim, isolating one part of historic Palestine from the other - driving a final stake through the heart of an illusory two-state solution, Israeli Ziofascists won’t ever permit.

Displacing villagers from both communities will solidify greater apartheid rule, crossing a rubicon of no-return.

Israel wants Khan al-Ahmar and Abu a-Nuwar residents forcibly moved about seven miles from their villages – intending to relocate them adjacent to a landfill, the area unsafe for human habitation.

Last week, the PLO urged the International Criminal Court to intervene against the planned demolition, asking its chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to meet with residents before eviction and destruction of their village occurs - a futile effort unable to stop what Israel intends to do.

Days earlier, the Netanyahu regime forcefully sealed off the village. Military bulldozers moved in, began razing land ahead of the planned demolition.

According to Maan News, “(v)iolent clashes erupted between protesters and Israeli forces outside the village, resulting in a number of injuries among residents and protesters.”

At least three Palestinians and one foreign activist were arrested.

Short of Trump regime intervention to save the village from demolition and displacement of its residents, what clearly won’t happen, Khan al-Ahmar is doomed - the last faint futile hope for Palestinian self-determination destroyed with it.

It’s precisely what Israel intends, able to get away with it because of world community dismissiveness toward fundamental Palestinian rights it doesn’t give a damn about.
