Russian Meddling in Israeli Elections?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

On Monday, head of Israel’s Shin Bet security service Nadav Argaman claimed foreign intervention is planned against Israeli April elections.

Without naming a foreign threat, by implication he likely meant Russia, saying cyberattacks from abroad will occur. “I know what I’m talking about. I just don’t know in who’s favor,” he roared, adding:

“I can’t say at this point for whom or against whom” the intervention will target, “but it involves cyber (attacks) and hacking,” saying he’s “100%” certain.

A follow-up Shin Bet statement said the agency “would like to make clear that the State of Israel and the intelligence community have the tools and capabilities to identify, monitor and thwart foreign influence efforts, should there be any.”

Meretz party head Tamar Zandberg said “(w)e demand the security services make sure that Putin doesn’t steal the elections for his friend, the tyrant Bibi” - referring to Netanyahu.

In October, Israel’s National Cyber Directorate said thousands of fake Facebook profile accounts about Israeli politicians were removed.

Israeli cybersecurity company Check Point Software Technologies claimed it identified threats based on alleged meddling in elections of other countries.

It cited possible voter database breaches, (nonexistent) hacking of political party networks, denial of service attacks, and dissemination of managed news misinformation and disinformation - no evidence accompanying the claims.

In 2018, IDF chief General Gadi Eisenkot warned of possible foreign meddling in Israeli elections, implying a Russian threat.

Former Mossad head Tamir Pardo, falsely claimed Russia used tens of thousands of bots to aid Trump triumph over Hillary.

In earlier congressional testimonies, Facebook, Twitter, and Goggle officials debunked  the fabricated claim.

Pardo lied saying the Kremlin decided Trump would best serve its interests, claiming it used “a system (of bots) for the length of the elections, and ran him for president” - a shameless perversion of truth, not a shred of evidence backing it.

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov slammed Israeli implications of Russian interference in its electoral process, saying “(i)t is out of the question.”

“Russia has never interfered in elections in any country and has no plans to do it in the future.” He advised against following Israeli media suggesting it.

In late December, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova mocked the bogus notion of Kremlin interference in foreign elections, saying:

Russian officials have nothing better to do than interfere “in the elections in South Africa and (attempt) to arrange a coup in Montenegro and to influence the referendum in Catalonia,” adding:

“(W)e provoked the ‘yellow vests’ protests in France; supported anti-immigrant movements in Germany; in one form or another, Russia allegedly interfered in India and Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, Argentina and Peru, in the Middle East, and in the post-Soviet republics” - along with arranging for Trump to triumph over Hillary.

Phony US/UK accusations about nonexistent Russian “interfer(ence) in electoral processes have long since become permanent background noise, notwithstanding the absence of arguments or evidence based on established norms.”

Nothing important can happen in America and Britain “without our involvement” – evidence supporting claims never forthcoming because none exists.

Manufactured Russophobic hysteria substitutes for truth-telling. No proof ever backed claims about Russia.

Without it they’re groundless, continuing with no prospect for ending the ruse - part of bipartisan US Russia bashing.
