Russian Criticism of US Sanctions Not Good Enough

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Republicans and undemocratic Dems consider Russia their mortal enemy - for its sovereign independence, not for any threat it poses.

Differences between both countries are too irreconcilable for Moscow to resolve.

Putin/Trump Helsinki summit talks achieved nothing. Nor will follow-up talks. Washington wants pro-Western puppet rule replacing Russian sovereign independence.

Nothing Moscow can do will change cold hard reality. Yet it persists in seeking improved relations with Washington wanting none of it.

Its criticism of US policies when made are mostly tepid, surely ineffective, accomplishing nothing because improved bilateral relations are unattainable.

Last week, Sergey Lavrov slammed new US sanctions over the March Skripal incident Moscow had nothing to do with, saying:

“Russia expressed strict rejection of new sanctions Washington unveiled,” debunking the notion that the Kremlin was behind the Salisbury incident - a US/UK false flag, wrongfully blamed on Moscow, part of unrelenting US Russophobia, backed by Russophobic media scoundrels.

Since the Skripal incident, “neither the US nor Great Britain nor any other country have presented a single fact to prove these allegations,” said Lavrov - because no proof exists.

A Russian Foreign Ministry statement added: “The United States has more than once demonstrated its contemptuous attitude to the system of international law and the wish to use the existing multilateral arms control mechanisms for advancing its own political agenda.”

“We regard the groundless charges of complicity in the Salisbury incident, put forward against Russia, as yet another attempt to create an impression our country takes an irresponsible attitude to compliance with international commitments.”

“This approach looks particularly hypocritical in a situation where the United States is in no hurry to eliminate its own arsenal of chemical weapons and remains the sole CWC signatory that keeps considerable amounts of chemical warfare agents.”

Russia completed elimination of its CW arsenal last year, certified by the OPCW. America and Israel maintain large arsenals of CW, biological, and radiological weapons - used in their wars of aggression against invented enemies, including defenseless Palestinians.

Washington refused to join the protocol on strengthening the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological, Biological, and Toxin Weapons and Their Destruction.

The US refuses to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), leaving it in legal limbo.

Nuclear weapons should be outlawed and eliminated worldwide. No longer testing them is an important first step.

US regimes blocked efforts to prevent an arms race in space. Trump’s unlawful JCPOA pullout and reimposition of illegal sanctions is part of an anti-Iran regime change plot.

Newly imposed US sanctions on Russia with tougher ones coming in November reflect Trump regime political and economic war on the country, risking things turning hot.

Bilateral diplomatic relations are dismal, Trump powerless to change things.

The only thing bipartisan hardliners in Washington understand is toughness, diplomatic outreach to improve relations a waste of time.

When will Russia counter US hostility strongly? When will it cease treating Washington as an ally and “partner?” When will it stop calling US officials “colleagues?”

No chance for improved bilateral relations exists. It’s foolhardy and counterproductive to believe otherwise, a sign of weakness, not strength, what Washington takes full advantage of.

US presidents are powerless fronts for dark forces running America, wanting regime change in Russia, not improved relations.

Geopolitical agendas of both nations are world’s apart. They’re adversaries, not partners, why Moscow’s diplomatic outreach accomplishes nothing.

US diabolical aims should terrify everyone. Will its political and economic war on Russia turn hot? Is it just a matter of time before the unthinkable becomes reality?
