Russia Intercepts US Spy Plane Approaching Its Airspace

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

US hostility toward Russia is longstanding, worse than ever today, a dire situation, risking confrontation between the world’s dominant nuclear powers.

Russia responds to provocative US actions in an entirely different way than if the tables were turned.

According to a Russian Southern Federal district statement:

“On November 25, Russian means of monitoring air space spotted an air target over an international area of the Black Sea that was approaching the state border at a high speed.”

“A Sukhoi-30 jet of the Southern Military District’s air defense was ordered into the air for interception. The Russian fighter approached the air target and identified it as a US reconnaissance plane P-8A Poseidon.”

“After being identified by a Russian fighter, the US reconnaissance plane changed its route and set course away from Russia’s airspace. Upon completing its mission the Russian fighter safely returned to base.”

Pentagon spokeswoman Michelle Baldanza ignored a deliberate US provocation, accusing Moscow of an “unsafe interception.”

These type provocations occur regularly, unacceptable US actions.

According to Russia’s Southern Military District air force commander, General Viktor Sevostyanov, over 100 US surveillance flights were conducted in the Black Sea region alone this year - mainly near the Crimean peninsula.

In June, a Russian Su-27 warplane intercepted a NATO F-16 approaching a plane carrying Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu en route to Kaliningrad.

If a Russian reconnaissance or other military aircraft approached the US mainland at high speed, or provocatively challenged a US plane carrying a government or military official, the Pentagon likely would order it shot down.

Washington might call Russia’s action a declaration of war, putting its global forces on high alert, perhaps mobilizing them for confrontation - an inevitable war coming sooner or later.

Given America’s rage to replace all sovereign independent governments with US-controlled vassal states, especially Russia, China and Iran, odds favor eventual catastrophic nuclear war, a doomsday scenario if launched, risking life on earth.
