Reinventing History, a NYT Specialty

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The self-styled newspaper of record is Washington’s leading imperial supporter, backing US wars of aggression, color revolutions, and old-fashioned coups, what’s playing out in Venezuela.

The Trump regime wants the nation colonized, its social democracy eliminated, its resources looted, its people exploited - the NYT cheerleading what’s going on, acting as a virtual imperial press agent.

Ignoring Nicolas Maduro’s democratic election and reelection last May, confirmed by international monitors, the Times supports the Trump regime-designated puppet Juan Guaido, a usurper in waiting, a traitor to his country with no legitimacy, falsely saying he was “propelled to the front by popular demonstrations.”

Along with disruptive violence, they were orchestrated by Washington, Guaido a pawn, used in a diabolical plot to kill Venezuelan sovereignty.

The Times: There is no question that President Maduro must go, the sooner the better…(H)e has led his oil-rich country into utter ruin.”

Fact: Crisis conditions were made in the USA, mainly by CIA subversion and flagrantly illegal sanctions war, waged to harm ordinary Venezuelans, hard times exacerbated by low oil prices, the nation and its people suffocating under Washington’s oppressive boot.

The Times support tyranny over democratic governance - not just in Venezuela, domestically in the US and everywhere else.

The Times: “The only solution is an interim government under Mr. Guaido, who as the head of the National Assembly has a legitimate claim to the presidency under the Venezuelan Constitution.”

Fact: “The only solution” is hands off Venezuela, respecting its sovereignty and rule of law, prohibiting nations from interfering in the affairs of other states - except in self-defense if attacked.

The Bolivarian Republic is being attacked, not the other way around. Nothing in Venezuelan constitutional or statute laws permits what’s going on. The Times lied claiming otherwise.

The Times: “In hopes of a peaceful resolution, many democratic governments have thrown their support behind Mr. Guaido.”

Fact: No democratic governments anywhere support regime change in Venezuela or anywhere else by US-staged coup d’etat or other means

 - only fantasy and regional fascist ones, acting as imperial agents, opposing democracy the way it’s supposed to be.

The same goes for the Times. It never met a tinpot despotic regime partnered with Washington’s imperial agenda it didn’t wholeheartedly support.

The Times: “ Mr. Maduro’s primary backers are Russia, China, Iran, Cuba and Turkey” - deliberately omitting them all.

Fact: Nations supporting him include Russia, China, Mexico, South Africa, Bolivia, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Suriname, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Italy, Uruguay, and the African Union.

The largely US-controlled Organization of American States got only 16 out of 34 member states to express support for regime change, short of the required number needed for its endorsement.

Surprisingly, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres failed to recognize unconstitutionally self-proclaimed interim president Guaido.

The Times demeaned what it called “the scourge of socialism” in Venezuela. It flourished under Chavez before US war by other means intensified, mainly by the Trump regime.

The Times ignored the “scourge” of predatory capitalism, endless wars waged to serve its interests, plundering one nation after another, beneficial social change not tolerated.

Democratic freedoms are incompatible with corporate America’s rage to rule the world - what Michael Parenti called unrestrained freedom to “invest, speculate, trade, and accumulate” unlimited wealth by plunder and exploitation, assuring powerful interests owning America run it for their own self-interest.

On major geopolitical and other issues, the Times is on the wrong side of history, supporting tyranny over democratic governance in Venezuela and elsewhere, notably in Israel - a gangster state like the US, partnered in its wars of aggression, waging its own undeclared wars.
