Rage Against Trump’s Jerusalem Declaration

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Protests continue across the West Bank and Gaza, more Palestinians injured by Israeli security forces, the toll likely to keep rising in the days ahead.

Silence and acquiescence assure continued occupation harshness and subjugation. Sustained activism offers hope one day for change, the only acceptable option.

Peace talks when initiated accomplish nothing, stalling for time, letting Israel steal more Palestinian land. Unless challenged, one day they’ll be nothing left to steal.

Scores more Palestinians were injured on Monday, including by live fire. According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 49 Palestinians were injured so far today, numerous others in the West Bank.

Many Palestinian activists were arrested, including Khader Adnan. In 2012, he nearly died while imprisoned for supporting Palestinian liberation, hunger-striking for justice for over 60 days, showing extraordinary courage.

He said he’ll immediately begin hunger-striking again until released. The Addameer Human Rights group said instead of recognizing prisoners and detainees as protected persons under international law, Israel considers them security or criminal offenders.

During a large-scale Monday rally in Beirut, Lebanon, protesting against Trump’s imperial affront, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah said “(w)e will never abandon Jerusalem.”

“All Arab peoples must repeat with the Palestinian people: ‘We will be millions of martyrs to sacrifice for Jerusalem” - his pledge echoed by tens of thousands.

On Monday, PLO executive committee member Hanan Ashrawi blasted Trump, saying he made peace talks, if again initiated, “irrelevant and superficial,” adding:

He “totally ripped apart the very legal foundation for peace in the region with their latest recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.”

He “destroyed every component of peace between Israel and the Palestinians…sid(ing) with the Israeli occupiers.”

Protests against Trump’s declaration began last Wednesday, showing no signs of ending.

For Palestinians, sustained resistance is the only option, peace, equity and justice only possible by standing together for a better future.
