Pompeo in Cairo

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

After meeting with Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo, Egypt’s strongman illegitimate president, a despot ruling by iron-fisted brute force, tolerating no criticism or opposition, Pompeo gave an Orwellian address, titled “A Force for Good: America’s Reinvigorated Role in the Middle East” - a shameless perversion of regional reality.

His remarks were reminiscent of Obama’s hollow June 2009 rhetoric in the city - phony outreach to Muslims ahead of his regime’s naked aggression in Libya and Syria, along with drone war on Yemen, endless Afpak war, and US belligerence elsewhere on his watch.

Decrying the “killing of innocent (Muslim) men, women, and children,” he later boasted about terror-bombing seven predominantly Muslim countries in eight years - Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia.

He partnered in preemptive Israeli wars on Gaza, massacring thousands of civilians, responsible for vast destruction, supporting endless suffocating blockade, imposed solely for political reasons, unrelated to security.

He lied saying America “did not go (to Afghanistan) by choice. We went of necessity…We do not want to keep our troops in Afghanistan. We seek no military bases there.”

“I have made it clear to the Iraqi people that we pursue no bases, and no claim on their territory or resources.”

His remarks were polar opposite his imperial agenda during eight years in office. His geopolitical agenda was all about endless wars of aggression, smashing one country after another, responsible for millions of casualties - continuing where Bush/Cheney left off.

Trump escalated what he inherited. Like Obama nearly a decade earlier, Pompeo’s address was an exercise in pure deception.

He lied calling the Trump regime “a force for good in this region…”  He lied saying “America has always been a liberating force, not an occupying power, in the Middle East.”

He lied claiming “(w)e’ve never dreamed of domination.” For dark forces in the country, that’s what the American dream is all about.

For ordinary people, it’s nightmarish.

Pompeo lied saying America is involved in combating ISIS - the scourge it created and supports. The same goes for likeminded terrorist groups in the region and elsewhere.

He lied claiming the US provided $2.5 billion in humanitarian assistance to Iraq since 2014.” Republicans and Dems provide military and related aid alone, funds to advance its imperial interests, hostile to the welfare of ordinary people everywhere the US shows up.

Pompeo lied saying “(w)e ask every peace-loving nation of the Middle East to shoulder new responsibilities for defeating Islamist extremism.”

America is a warrior state, supporting Islamic extremists, peace and stability considered abhorrent notions.

Pompeo lied claiming “America will continue to confront the ugly reality of radical Islamist terrorism” - its proxy force in the region and elsewhere.

He lied saying America and its so-called coalition partners “dismantle(d) the Islamic State’s caliphate.” It’s involved in recruiting more fighters - arming, funding, training and directing them.

He lied claiming the US “will remain a steadfast partner on counterterrorism…We will keep working with our partners in the Coalition to Defeat ISIS. We will continue to hunt down terrorists in the Middle East and around the world who seek safe havens.”

Washington’s agenda is polar opposite his Big Lies, featuring endless wars of aggression, wanting all sovereign independent governments eliminated everywhere.

Pompeo lied about Iran. Everything he and other Trump regime officials said about the country is polar opposite cold, hard truths.

The so-called “brighter future” he cited is Washington aim for unchallenged regional and global control, puppet regimes worldwide serving its interests, ordinary people everywhere subjugated as virtual serfs with no rights or futures - stomped on by America’s boot.

Pompeo is visiting US regional satellite countries, including Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait.

He’s enlisting greater support for Washington’s imperial agenda, including its war machine, pressure on Iran, and regime change aims against all sovereign independent governments.

A Final Comment

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted the following in response to Pompeo’s deplorable remarks:

“Whenever/wherever US interferes, chaos, repression & resentment follow.” The notion of America as a “force for good” flies in the face of its rage to topple all governments unwilling to subordinate their interests to Washington’s.
