Observing High Holidays in Israel at Expense of Palestinian Rights

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Jews in Israel and elsewhere commemorate the Rosh Hashanah new year for two days, beginning on September 20 at sundown - followed by Yom Kippur on September 29.

Both are solemn periods, including a 10-day repentance period. Rogue Israeli officials have lots they never repent for, compounding their crimes with new ones.

Excluded is penance for decades of brutalizing occupation harshness. Crimes of war and against humanity remain out of sight and mind.

Most rabbis ignore them. So do Western and Israeli media scoundrels. Endless Palestinian suffering goes unmentioned.

During the high holidays, Israeli security forces are on high alert, patrols beefed up, Palestinians threatening no one prevented from entering Israel, unable to access jobs and Al-Aqsa to pray, both legitimate rights, not when soldiers and police deny them.

Checkpoints and border crossings are closed, Palestinians restricted to areas when Israel wants them contained.

Jews can go anywhere, anytime doing anything they please. Palestinians face open-air imprisonment in their own country. It’s been this way for decades, no end of it in prospect, brutal persecution, world community indifference offering no relief, rhetoric alone, no actions, letting Israel get away with murder and much more.

On Rosh Hashanah eve, hundreds of heavily guarded extremist settlers raided the Al-Aksa mosque compound, desecrating it with their presence.

Israeli forces regularly escort these elements to the site, challenging its status, heightening tensions, often leading to clashes.

Targeted Palestinians are prohibited from visiting the compound and mosque to pray, compounding their oppressive treatment.

Normal daily life is denied, Palestinians subjected to brutalizing treatment daily, especially harsh at certain times  like during the Jewish high holidays, along with whenever attacks are launched on their communities.

Slow-motion genocidal strangulation is longstanding Israeli policy.

For Occupied Palestine, especially besieged Gazans, Dante’s inscription through the gate of Hell applies: “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”
