The NYT Cheerleads NATO’s Killing Machine

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

NATO is all about offense, not defense, especially since Soviet Russia dissolved.

None of its member states face external security threats - only what Washington and its imperial partners unjustifiably claim.

As long as the US-dominated NATO monster exists, world peace and stability will remain unattainable - endless wars of aggression continuing, resolution opposed everywhere, a pretext to keep wasting countless billions on dollars on belligerence at the expense of beneficial social change.

Times editors lied earlier, calling NATO “the anchor of Western security…(its) nations mostly democracies with vibrant free markets…have helped America keep enemies at bay…”

Fantasy democracies comprise NATO, not legitimate ones. So-called “free markets” aren’t fair, serving monied interests exclusively at the expense of the general welfare, exploiting people for profit, inventing enemies because real ones don’t exist.

The Times latest commercial for NATO again turned truth on its head, calling the alliance “the anchor of an American-led and American-financed peace that fostered Western prosperity and prevented new world wars.”

American-led is America dominated, using NATO to advance its imperium, the alliance responsible for endless wars of aggression, causing mass slaughter and destruction everywhere it shows up, raping one country after another - peace and stability considered anathema notions.

The Times: “(A)s (alliance members meet) in Brussels this week…many are wondering whether the American president is intent on wrecking it.”

Trump champions NATO. Calling it “obsolete” was campaign rhetoric, quickly abandoned once in office.

He rages for greater alliance military spending than already, unrelated to security risks, entirely related to wanting NATO used as a US imperial tool, along with gaining increasing market potential for US arms makers.

Greater profits for them means all the more support for him, including larger amounts of campaign contributions - the dirty money game way politics in America is played, voters having no say over how they’re governed or by whom in high places.

The Times: “… NATO linked America and Europe…advanc(es) democratic governance, the rule of law, civil and human rights, and an increasingly open international economy.”

Washington and alliance partners revile these notions. US-dominated NATO aggression speaks for itself.

So does increasingly tyrannical rule in Western countries on the phony pretext of combating terrorism they support and false claims about national security at a time no external threats exist.

The Times: “The alliance was the core of an American-led liberal world order that extended to Asia and relied on a web of international institutions, including the United Nations and the World Bank.”

There’s nothing liberal about fascist rule. The UN, World Bank and other international institutions are appendages of US imperial and money-dominated policies, serving political and corporate interests at the expense of ordinary people everywhere.

There’s nothing “pluralistic” about Washington pursuing dominance over all other nations, smashing resisters.

The Times: “After the Cold War, (NATO) defended Muslims in the Balkans” - a Big Lie. Washington falsely claimed concern to rape and destroy Yugoslavia.

The Times: “(A)ter 9/11, (NATO) help(ed) the United States fight terrorists in Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa and elsewhere.”

You’d have had to be asleep for nearly 20 years to believe it, entirely out-of-touch with what went on.

Post-9/11 US-led NATO wars constituted naked aggression against all countries attacked, using ISIS and other terrorists as imperial proxies, not combatting them as falsely claimed.

The Times: “…NATO remains central to major American national security initiatives in a world shaken by the rise of an increasingly assertive China” and Russia.”

Truth is the other way around. China, Russia, numerous other countries and humanity are threatened as long as NATO exists.

World peace and stability are only possible if NATO is dissolved the way Jack Kennedy wanted to “splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it into the wind.”

His transformation in office from warrior to peacemaker cost him his life. The CIA he wanted eliminated killed him.

The Times is a press agent for wealth, power and privilege, a national disgrace, not the self-styled “newspaper of record” - only for readers wanting disinformation, Big Lies and fake news, not truth-telling journalism the way it’s supposed to be.
