Mischief-Making Russians Are Coming?

by Stephen Lendman

Russia bashing is practically the national sport in America and other Western countries, notably Britain.

Hawkish UK Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson sounded buffoon-like weeks earlier, saying Russia “could cause ‘thousands and thousands and thousands’ of deaths in Britain with an attack that would cripple the UK’s infrastructure and energy supply.”

“(T)hey are saying these are the ways that we can hurt Britain.”

Like other phony fear-mongering anti-Russia accusations, he provided no evidence proving them. There’s nothing to prove.

Western media are especially Russophobic. A new NYT editorial said “Russian meddling in the politics of the United States and most every other Western country demands a tough response” - failing to explain no “Russian meddling” occurred, earlier or now.

The Times turned truth on its head accusing Moscow of “fake news, false identities, cyberattacks and other (anti-US) tactics,” adding:

“Fear and suspicion of liberal democracy runs deep in Russia, (aiming to) mak(e) Western democracies appear as flawed, ugly and messy as possible.”

Their disturbing policies speak for themselves, including endless imperial wars, serving privileged interests exclusively, and cracking down hard on legitimate resistance.

No “Russian troll factory” exists, no strategy in Moscow to undermine Western governments, no interference in their elections or other internal affairs.

The neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post’s latest anti-Russia broadside headlined “The Russians are coming. Republicans need to do something about it,” saying:

Trump “has shown an alarming unwillingness to respond to Russia’s hostile influence campaign during the 2016 election and to counter its effort to interfere in this year’s vote.”

“That means Congress and the states must step in, and soon, to secure the midterms against an emboldened adversary that has already penetrated state election systems once and that continues to wield online provocateurs to disseminate lies and inflame national divisions.”

Fact: No hostile Russian influence exists, no interference in the 2016 presidential election, no Russian threat to this year’s midterm elections, no reason for Trump to respond to nothing but Big Lies - nothing for Congress and states to challenge.

House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes is a rare cool head in Washington. Days earlier he said “(w)e’ve never had any evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians.”

“There’s nothing there,” his committee’s investigation closing down because lack of evidence justifies ending it.

He denounced unmasking of Americans leaked to the media, stressing “Americans aren't supposed to be spied on by our intelligence agencies.”

Yet “hundreds, and hundreds, and hundreds of” Americans were affected “for political purposes…to create (political dirt) and a spin with the mainstream media,” adding:

“Those stories were totally fake from the beginning…made up nonsense.”

Nunes is an anomaly. Paul Craig Roberts believes he could be assassinated for disclosing disturbing truths bipartisan dark forces in Washington want suppressed. Maybe he and I are on their target list for doing the same thing.

Undemocratic House and Senate Dems called for his removal as House Intelligence Committee chairman.

Extremist GOP Senator Lindsey Graham disgracefully said he “lost his credibility” for conducting an “Inspector Clouseau investigation” - relating to his damning memo, exposing extensive witch-hunt Russiagate FISA abuses.

If replaced as House Intelligence Committee chairman, defrocking may be the least of his concerns.
