US Marines Getting Cold Weather Equipment

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

According to the Military Times, The Marine Corps is spending $7 million on new skis for Marines to train in cold weather,” citing a Marine Corps spokeswoman.

It’s buying “skis, boots and bindings for scout snipers, reconnaissance Marines and some infantry Marines…”

Forces in Norway near Russia’s border will get the new gear first, maybe others in South Korea near the DMZ next.

During his visit to Norway earlier this month, Marine Corps Commandant General Robert Neller said no marine “is going to leave here (without) know(ing) how to ski.”

As an occasional skier long ago, I learned it’s not hard once you get the hang of it, depending on weather conditions.

During his visit, Neller also told marines he addressed to prepare for a “big-ass fight” he sees coming,” adding:

“I hope I’m wrong, but there’s (another) war coming. He believes the Asia Pacific and Russia will become conflict zones, in addition to the Middle East already.

According to Lt. Col. Chris Madeline, marines will get NATO ski equipment, including “ski march” boots, the Military Times saying:

“With an increased focus on possible near-peer conflicts that could include Russia or North Korea, the Marines’ arctic preparedness has come into question.”

Special forces and marines are on the frontlines of US combat operations. It’s hard imagining an invasion of Russia ahead.

North Korea is another story. Western media earlier reported on a possible decapitation unit to take out Kim Jong-un, perhaps other DPRK officials with him - the idea sounding like a Grade B Hollywood plot.

Pyongyang strongly opposes Washington’s phony war on terror, correctly calling it a pretext to topple independent governments, including an alleged plot to assassinate Kim Jong-Un.

Last fall, the official state Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said while Pyongyang is committed to combating terrorism “the main reason (US-supported) international terrorism is not yet annihilated” is because Washington fosters it.

At the time, it claimed a plot to depose Kim was foiled earlier this year, saying:

“In May this year, a group of heinous terrorists who infiltrated into our country on the orders of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the US and the South Korean puppet Intelligence Service with the purpose of carrying out a state-sponsored terrorism against our supreme headquarters using biological and chemical substances were caught and exposed,” adding:

“This palpably shows the true nature of the US as the main culprit behind terrorism” - part of its plan for unchallenged global dominance.

The Trump administration’s rage for endless wars of aggression suggests a turbulent 2018 ahead - North Korea and Iran perhaps on its target list.
